help for a friend...

hello all:

not sure the rules and regulations of this forum, as i've never been here, but, here's the situation:

a co-worker of mine has a '95 model SVX with automatic transmission, and the transmission is apparently shot. what are his options and/or cost to repair or replace?

even better, he's in the NW houston, TX area, so any preferred mechanics/specialists you could recommend would be spectacular.

thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

feel free to hit me up on AIM: carl4761
or via email: carl4761@aol.com

If you do a search on this forum for transmissions you will come up with 1/2 billion posts or so. The tranny is the largest issue with this car. The big question is is the car front wheel or all wheel drive?

Mine is all wheel and I spent $2700 for a rebuild and the addition of a supplimental tranny fluid cooler.

Do a search and get a great education. I can't help with a mechanic as I'm in Florida.

Good luck.

I'm in connecticut and i paid just under 2 grand for my rebuild, no tranny cooler yet though

Might check out West Houston Subaru...

I purchased my SVX in Houston this last summer. I checked out both Gillman Subaru down toward Sugar Land and West Houston Subaru out 10 West. While the people where friendly at Gillman, West Houston had a tech at the time that was a SVX fan. He owned two and apparently was preparing to replace the tranny in a SVX whose drive train was destroyed during an emissions test. I unfortunately don’t remember the tech’s name but I would imagine he's the only SVX person there.

No Subaru dealer will be cheap, and West Houston is no exception, but I suppose it’s worth the time to check with them.
