fuel gauge dead
Anyone ever have the fuel gauge die on them. My local mechanic can't figure it out...Replaced the wires, etc. but no juice. He said the ohms went from 8 to 150 at one point but it wouldn't hold. I hate to take it to the dealer as they now charge $100 just to look at it. I noticed a few weeks ago that sometimes when I started the car up the gague had dropped to Empty only to go back up once the car started. Just replaced the fuel pump which is working fine. Thanks for the help.

Thanks. How much did it cost to repair?

Double posted, sorry.

Re: fuel gauge dead
I have gauge cluster that I bought for the tachometer. I'd be willing to attempt to remove the gas gauge for shiping only. What is a small Priority Mail box these days, $4.80? PM me if interested. First I'd recommend removing yours and see if there is some obvious circuit board break. A entire gauge cluster replacement is a option and probably easier if the odometer reading matches. If not be honest and let the next buyer know what you did.

Re: fuel gauge dead
Thanks. My speed sensor is dead also but the fuel gauge went later on. I need to get that replaced also. It's a little tough to know how much gas I have when my Odo. and the fuel gague doesn't work. Let me know what else I need to do to get the part. Thanks a lot.

Re: fuel gauge dead
Sorry I did not respond sooner. I'll try to get some photo's of the back of the gauge cluster but there is a single printed circuit board that covers all of the read outs. I'll start by removing the multiple screws out of curiosity of what's underneath. Anyone ever change individual gauges? In the meantime, make sure whatever sensor is sending info to the fuel guage is working properly. If that's not the problem, it may be less trouble trouble to replace the entire gauge cluster with one that has similar mileage.

Re: fuel gauge dead
Thats what I did. I replaced the whole gauge cluster and that fixed my fuel gauge problem. Good luck and if you need a used gauge cluster, I got one. PM me for more detail.
