Fantonworks Meet Summer 2017 - Norfolk, VA

Perhaps it's the adrenaline from Lafayette that's provided the inspiration, but last weekend's got me thinking about future meets. For those of you that watch the Velocity channel, you may have heard of Fantonworks ( http://fantomworks.com/).

Fantonworks is a custom automotive restoration (focusing primarily on muscle cars pre 1973) shop in Norfolk, VA. Every Friday at 3PM they hold tours of the facility. I spoke with Melissa, their HR Rep, earlier today and she advised that Dan Short (owner) and the Fantomworks crew would be more than happy to host us. The tour typically lasts about an hour and if we give enough of a heads up, Melissa will ensure the owner/star of the show Dan Short will be available.

At this point, I'd like to get a sense of those interested and able to attend. There are plenty of things to do in the Norfolk, VA area so we could easily make a short weekend of it.

Tentatively planning for late June or July. Thoughts?

Count me in, definitely interested. It would be great to have another meet (or two) in between the 25th Anniversary and next year's Reading meet.

I'd be interested in that too. My uncle lives in Norfolk and its been too long since I've seen him anyway so i could make a trip out of it. Keep me in the loop if you plan something.

Re: Fantonworks Meet Summer 2017 - Norfolk, VA (JUNE 23rd)

We are all set for for Friday June 23rd. As of now, I believe we have the following members tentatively interested

1. SVXMAN2001 (obviously) +2 non-svx owners but car enthusiasts nonetheless
2. Haliston
3. SVXit
4. Sean486

The shop tour begins at 3PM and lasts approximately 1 hour depending on the crowd.

I'll be making a weekend of it, leaving northern, va at 8AM and have tentatively planned a number of scenic drives, local attractions, breweries and restaurants. I'll provide a detailed itinerary (always subject to change) for those interested by this Sunday.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions please feel free to chime in. I've never been and am planning based upon internet research.

*Full disclosure - there is no guarantee Dan Short will be present. I last spoke with Melissa (his wife) who said she would try her best to have him there, but based upon my follow up conversations she's indicated that there's no guarantee.

I'm thinking I'm going to take a vacation day I'm not sure if I will stay over or not. Going to see if any other family members want to come along. They would not be interested in the car things but it is close to the beach.

Gotta do Greenie's in Ocean View, rear deck has a great view of the Chesapeake Bay, and their steamed shrimp and beer buckets / towers are worth the parking hassle.

Should also try and see the Air Museum out in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach.

Nauticus in Norfolk is cool, along with a tour of the USS Wisconsin...

Virginia Air and Space Museum in Hampton...

Yorktown Victory Center Museum...

Pierce's Pit BBQ in Williamsburg...

So is this occurring the same weekend as the dragon?

Yes, it appears to be, but this is just on Friday. In theory, one could do both meets. Norfolk is probably not too far away, i.e., less than ten hours.

If a quick trip to Williamsburg is under consideration, this place is well worth a visit. I've been here many times and it is great, and no parking issues:

Hey guys, what is the status of this? Who is in, and is anyone meeting up before hand? I took off work but have not booked a hotel yet.
