A recent post made me think a little
 

A recent post asking about tire sizes, and a reference to a Miata site, made me do some thinking & a tiny bit of work.

So, I made a couple of Excel spreadsheets, then published them as interactive web documents.

Can somebody try one of them and see if they work for you. I would be especially interested in both PC and other type computers (Macs, Linux, etc) and even more so if you don't have Excel. They work for me but.....not so sure about my skills. If they work I may try to pretty them up. One does the tire size comparo thing, the other determines how many times you would have to do a drain and refill to get some percentage of clean fluid.

Worked for me.

PC: Centrino (Intel P4 equivalent, but made for laptops), Windows XP, Office XP.

I liked the tire replacement spreadsheet, very useful.

However, there is an error in the logic of the fluid replacement sheet. The math is fine, but it assumes that the same percentage of the residual fluid leftover is replaced the second time, and there is no way of being sure of that. That last quart may be solid in the bottom of the pan--you have no way of knowing that 70% of the non-replaced 3 quarts are replaced in the second fluid exchange. Or the third, or the fourth...

The only way to make sure 100% of your fluid is replaced is to do a complete drain from the bottom of the pan, and have it completely flushed, then replace with completely new fluid.

It worked for me, but I am using MS XP. :)

Can you lock the cells with calculations? That way one could not type in where you have calcs.
How about adding the SVX speed, mph and rpm of the wheel?
If your really good, how much the speedo will be off:)
How about another line underneath the one you got?
Then I could compare the stock tire to the proposed tire.
How about a little write up on the calcualtion method?
Diagram showing the dimension?
The max size of the tire OD that will fit the stock SVX?
Smallest rim ID that will fit the SVX?

If it only works for people with Win XP, then that sucks and I need to approach it another way.

svx_commuter, yes the math is simple stuff and I could lock cells, but see above. If I do go another route, I'll try to add in the stuff you suggested. I'll probably have to post it on my own web page as I don't think I know enough to make a stand-alone html file without the help of some package, i.e., frontpage, etc.

Kevin, agree draining and physically checking the pan is the proper way, but I think I change ATF fluid more often than most...Like at every oil change. I'm not yet ready to make the investment of a pan gasket etc at every oil change. Thought it would be handy to know what percentage of clean fluid was in the box. After two changes it's worthless to me, but once I had the column going....

I'm hoping this will work for anyone (but it does need Java :( ). I can't figure out how to do math in html.

EDIT: BTW, I think I have the tire calculator on the personal pages here fixed for all to use, PC, Mac, whatever (but with Java enabled...see above).
