plz Help!

I just bought a 1996 SVX and the first night I had it I noticed when I turned the cars lights on that only the station # on the Cassette/Radio Deck would light up leaving everything else dark as I was driving the radio station Display dimmed and it all started to work and then just randomly stoped again like there is something loose.... there are also a few other lights that I noticed were burnt out and don't work occasionally those the 2 of the 4 lights near the moon roof as well as 3 of the 4 power window buttons on the drivers side I was wondering if There was anyway to get them all to work again? thanks

First of all, Cap'n, welcome to the network. My radio lights do the same thing. I've had it apart and still can't figure out how to fix the connection. It may call for unsoldering and re-soldering the board, plus, the burnt lights in the radio are soldered onto the board. Seems like it'd be a real PITA. I may give it a try some day, since I have two units.

As for the overhead console lights, they're replaceable. Can't remember the type of bulb it uses, but, they're a "pull and replace" scenario.

The driver's side window switches? You're in luck. The ONLY one that has a light is the driver's window button. No bulbs are burnt if the ONE button lights. I don't know why Subaru did it that way, but. I suppose they were saving a few bucks, or putting the money into research on how NOT to put a cupholder in the car. :)

Good luck, and, again, welcome.

Car radios are actually pretty easy to open and replace the bulbs on. Too bad you're not in KC, I'd replace it for ya free of charge. You would not believe how many pieces I had my double din radio in at one time, and it still work now....mostly. :D

The unit is easy to get into, but, the lamps are actually part of the socket and the socket is soldered into the boad. The only way to get to the back of the board, to unsolder the light sockets, is to unsolder the board.

On the other hand, the CD unit makes it a little easier. Once you have the face off, the board simply unplugs, and you can get to the back of the board easily. Why da heck didn't day do dat wid da radio. SHeesh. :D

So all that's stopping you is an itty bitty bit of solder? ;) That's never stopped me before.

I, too, have a solder sucker. One of the finest tools known to man. :D I just need a new, smaller tip for my iron. Plus, everything plays well now. Why take a chance on screwing it up for the sake of a few lights. I'll just close the door. :D
