Paul.

The Air Purifier is an option on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars. It can be purchased for $500 or so, but must be imported from Japan. I don't think it is worth it for around here unless you are a heavy smoker. As an add on, it would be how you described it - an expensive looking object. :)

A couple more gizmos like...
1) VTD AWD system
2) Better Diff ratio
3) Ventilated rear brakes
4) Different engine tuning
5) Active 4 wheel steer (on some models)
6) Different climate control

Given the choice, would anyone pick the US model over the JDM one?

CorSVXette 09-23-2007 11:36 AM

Thanks. I'll stick to the $5.00 air freshener as opposed to the $500.00 one.

Well, if you want to be absolutely true to the home market pronounciation, this particular way of saying it is nothing like the Japanese.

I was speaking to some Japanese gentlemen on a trade stand in Birmingham last January, and the way they pronounced it sounded to me like:

arry -yoo-shee-oh-neh

Now I don't know any Japanese, and maybe Nomake Wan can correct me on that, but the above is what it sounded like to me.

Almost.

The way it is written and pronounced in Japanese is:

ar-roo-she-oh-neh

crazyhorse 09-24-2007 04:36 PM

That lends creedence to the Japaneese stereotypical swapping L's for R's

There's an XT advertisement on Youtube. It's in Japaneese, and yes they call it Arry-yoo-shee-oh-ne

I'd hope the ad guys would know the pronunciation

It sounded more like All-she-own :)

Ah, then my ear is not too bad, I was close.

Paul, is it possible to get a scan of the wiring of the JDM speedo and clocks? My version L has a problem, I want to see how the wiring for the SS2 connects to the rear steering computer.

Joe:)

AlcyoneDaze 09-24-2007 05:50 PM

oh, one other thing for a true Alcyone visual conversion, the engine covers are different between the US and Japanese models,

the US version:
http://i21.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/b6/15/2714_1.JPG

whereas the JDM cover lets you know its a BOXER engine:

not really worth it to get it imported new or pay $100 for it, but if you ever find one on an import/parts website that doesn't know what it is and how rare/valuable it is, pick it up for $25 like I did
