Inflated prices?

What's up with people asking so much for these cars...I realize they are rare, but not THAT rare...

Been looking for a good AWD SVX in NewE for less than $4000.

Sometimes people can be talked down, but if they're not in a hurry to sell I guess they might as well wait for someone willing to pay too much, and maybe it's worth it if the car is pristine, but it often isn't.

I'd guess I speak for a couple or three folks around here when I confess that, now that I've found a seemingly-solid SVX, I like seeing high asking prices.

I bought mine in 2001 for $9,950 and I'm asking $12,500 for it now, even have a buyer too... He wants to turn it into a show car and increase the popularity and public knowelage of the SVX with it... And I think it's worth every cent of it... Everything in the car is in Awesome condition... This weekend I'm getting Porter's Koni/GC suspension... After that I am working on swaping out STi Brembo calipers and rotors and putting them on the car... It's all about how much money ya put into it and how well ya take care of it... Like me I change the oil every 1.5 months... Only drive the car on the weekends (I walk to work)... Wash every weekend, Wax every other weekend... Car coverer goes on in the winter... So ya see some cars are worth it... Total I will have spent over $17,500 on the car after everything is finished... And I love it.. :):D:D

Considering only 14,000 of these were sold in the US, I'd say they are a very rare production car.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that many SVX's sold for more than $25,000 brand new.

Also, consider the style and performance of a reasonably healthy SVX that goes for, say, five grand, versus what it would cost to buy any comparable new car.

I think they're selling for too little. I would love to see the average selling price start to go even higher. It might keep them going to enthusiast owners rather than kids looking for a 'cool looking fast car.'

My car was on the lot for $ 11,995 at the Subaru dealer when i bought it in 2001.

Hey,

You seem to like cars that are limited production... SHO, Thunderbirds.

Well these are by far more rare than 99% of any production car made. These are the 90's version of the "TUCKER"

$3450 for mine, late last year. Of course she had a few issues, but to date my total expenditure is still under $5000.

(I'd better shut up about that.)

You get what you pay for, and sometimes more. If a car has all of the maintenance records with it, it will usually bring a higher price. If it is solid and has not been abused, it would be worth more. You have to consider all of the history and condition when you buy. Yes, you can get some deals, but you can also get some Money Pits too. :)

My particular SHO is rare, 1 of an estimated 250. But my T-bird is FAR from rare... "only" ~90,000 in that year alone, and ~2.4 MILLION in the chassis production run.

i paid $3800 for the 92 w/ 108k miles in may 2002. so far, i've only spent $2000 in repairs AND maintenance. the car now has over 144k miles. maybe i was lucky, but i think $3800 was a good price for an svx, let alone ANY awd car w/ that few many miles.

It depends on the car. Watch out and have someone who "knows" svx troubles test drive the car.

My first SVX ran me 5000 and took another 10000 from me and it was still giving me trouble. Yes another 10k.

My second SVX (I sold it because I did not like the colour) to a member here and I broke even and it was amazing.

My last one I got it for 1500 bucks and drove it home. After repairs, it's still under 5000. There are some issues with it (such as engine bay needs to be cleaned etc) but so far has been nice.

3rd SVX was owned by SOA and sold to the previous owner around 50k. Been in 2 rear endings before I got it(mostly fender benders). So it all depends on the car and who took care of it.

is there an unlikeable colour?

ensteele 03-19-2004 10:58 PM

I would not answer that question for all of the money in the world. ;) :)
