What does the titanium oxide w/s block?

I know its for UV rays, and I have heard that people have to use external EZ Pass transponders, but will a GPS unit acquire satellites if the antenna is internal or mounted under the windshield ??

I have searched the Mod section and read conflicting accounts, thanks.

It doesn't allow uv rays to fade the dash out. You'll wonder why a 15 yr old car doesn't have a dry, cracked dash like most older cars.

What im asking really is, does the windshield block satellite signals?

I think it does/doesn't. Some people can get GPS to work but it may lag.

I have Garmin Street Pilot 330 and yes it does have trouble acquiring satellite in the SVX, but once they are acquired it seems to hold onto them through out the trip. What I usually do is open the sunroof and hold it out there for a few minutes till it acquires the satellites, then just pop it back onto dash and your ready to go. If I stop for gas and it turns off, or if I go through a long tunnel I may have to do the acquire thing again, but I can definitely verify that it does work.

You could also get the extension antenna and run it to the back, that should make it work better.

I,ve had my Navman ICN630 working for over 5 years - positioned in front of the guages, without the antenna swung out.....works just fine.

Do all the windshields have this? What about the bronze windshields with GPS?

Chris,

I have used our GPS (Garmin Nuvi #350) with much sucess in our SVXes.
I do not attach it to the windshield. I put it on the console under the lowered parking brake handle. It tells me when to turn........or as NUVI says, when she doesn't like the way that I choose.....RECALCULATING!!!!

Good Luck.

Excellent! Thank you guys for the responses. I won a new, sealed in box Nextar M3-02 for $36 :D. Granted its not exactly top o' dee line, but it will serve its purpose well for 36 clams.

Funny, here in CA its actually illegal to use the windshield mount, or to have ANYTHING attached to any windows on the car. Hopefully soon CA will break off into the pacific and end the communist regime here.

My Magellan unit has some problems but I work it out if I can't get enough "green bars" to make it function, I can open the sun roof and hold it up till I get the satilites going, put it back in it's dash holder, and then all is good. Getting it started apparently takes more that just thew operating part. I have a bronze windshield.
