Jae 2006
Everyone
Here is the first info about JAE 2006 from Claire. I will keep everyone posted as to further updates. Seems like a long way off, but it's only 6 months in reality !! Joe, or other mods, again can we have this as a "stuck" thread. Phil. Date: Mon, 16 Jan 2006 16:40:49 -0000 Japanese Auto Extravaganza (JAE) 2006 is confirmed! Last year we had over 3500 club cars and 2006 promises to be even bigger with more clubs registered already. For 2006 JAE will be staying at the new, bigger venue, The East of England Showground. But for 2006 we now have even more to do with more activities for clubs, more activities for enthusiasts and better facilities. JAE 2006 will take place from Friday 21 July 2006 to Sunday 23 July 2006 Last year we proved the new, secured venue is large enough to hold ALL car clubs/traders and have a designated camping areas. We know we did not get everything right and so have made some changes for this years event. Now there will be separate, smaller trade areas, dedicated autojumble, even more camping space, a fun fair, fireworks, film show, disco and a heck of a lot more! But we will still have the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, chilling out by barbecues and generally having a fun time messing about with all things Japanese and wheeled! It's official! JAE is the largest Japanese Car Show anywhere in the world! Detailed information about this year's event will go out in February. But, if you want some more information use the dedicated JAE forum at www.japcarclub.com/jae this website will also be updated regularly to keep you abreast of information and developments for 2006. If you would like more information please contact Claire Williams and we will be happy to assist. Details are as follows: Claire Williams Office: 08700 109705 |
2006 meeting?
Thanks for keeping up to date with this Phil.
Good to know the dates, so we can plan. Moving tangentially along, I was wondering if everyone is happy to use the JAE as the focal meet? I know it has a lot going for it. It's big. It's central. It has a lot to interest family members if they are interested and come along. It has comraderie. It has the bonus of seeing other clubs, other cars. This, and much more. The only reason I ask the question is there was a lot of fun when we organised our own events too. In particular, we got to drive in convoy and visit some interesting places. This aspect is missing if we are camped in JAE for three days. Any comments? Negative or Positive? Thread is stickied Phil. Joe:) |
Details of the event
Ok guys, I've received more from Claire about JAE 2006.
I'll not type out the whole thing, I'll try and get it scanned at work next week and upload it. The synopsis is : Cost for the pitch is the same at £1 per car for the weekend. Cost of entry appears to now be a flat rate of £20, whether you attend one day or all weekend, and includes camping. We can have a short piece in the official show guide if we write approx 50 words and submit it for review. The final date for submission for bookings is June 30th, so plenty of time to decide what we're doing this year. Best regards to everyone. Phil. |
Phil
I am looking ahead at my holiday plans, and I am including JAE as one of my trips at the moment. As you are dealing with the correspondence with the organisers, could I suggest a couple of things?: First and foremost, last year's stand was too small. It was good in many ways, but considering the small cost of a plot three or four times the size, definitely too small. Next, as we were right beside the gate, it meant that everybody saw us, we were easy to find, and quick to get away. On the negative side, we were covered in dust, because every car coming and going passed by us. So I think we could look for a stand farther in, this year. Do people agree? Were you going to scan up and paste some detail? Thanks Joe:) Quote:

Hi de hi,
If it's feedback your looking for then yes, a better position would be great and definately away from the dusty track. If the turn out is as enthusiastic a bigger plot wouldn't go amiss, and I for one wouldn't object paying more for the pleasure! John |
Scanned documents (at last!!)
Ok everyone,
I've scanned the docs from Clair and put them in my locker in a folder called JAE2006. We still have some time to make our minds up about taking a stand, the final date to let Clair know is 9th June. Speak soon. Phil. |
Decision time
That's excellent Phil.
I suggest we now make a decision if we are going or not. My earlier point was about the fact that JAE does not easily lend itself to a dedicated drive with the cars. On the other hand, it is central, has a load of stuff going on, and everybody seems to like it. So, can we have feedback? Would everybody please respond with a preference? Yes, we want to do the JAE show again. No, we would prefer to organise something different this year. Thanks Joe:) |
JAE is good, but a convoy drive NEEDS to be scheduled.
Unfortunately I don't think Belha and I can make it this year, so that's two cars down for a start. :( |
Times is running out.......
OK ladies and gents, the final call fro this year's JAE is looming. The last date for applications is June 1st.
I've not confirmed to Claire what we want to do yet, so if we are looking to have a stand and make an appearance please let me know as soon as possible. If we are going to go this year, I'll book a 20 car stand in light of previous comments about space. Everyone, please let me know what you want to do. Phil. |
Hi Phil
I'm definitely coming, although my car is not sorted yet. I'm going to PM everyone from last year to see how many we have. Whatever the booking cost Phil, put it in, we'll sort you. Maybe we can sort a drive convoy along with the show? Say Friday? Book it anyway. Joe:) |
yep count me in

Any JAE space left
Hi Phil,
Can you tell me if there is any space left for an additional SVX in your stand for this years JAE? Thanks Ally |
Quote:
Cozz, Hi man and you are very welcome to the site, I see it's your first post. Phil will no doubt pick up on your question, but in short, yes, plenty of room for another SVX.:D We are taking more space this year than last year, so we will have more room for cars. Where is your location? Is it Scotland? Give us some detail on your car, we love to hear from new owners. Joe:) |
Hi Joe,
Thanks for your prompt response. Planning to come down from Kirriemuir, Scotland ( Between Aberdeen and Dundee ). The car is a '95 model and I've had it for three years now. The colour is black and it came with tints, looks good though. Holiday's are booked for the show and am looking forward to coming down to the JAE. It would be greet to meet up with some other SVX owners! Cheers, take care. Ally |

Hi Joe, If there are still spaces left for the JAE could you ( or anyone else ) let me know how I would book a space on the svx stand. Could you also supply info and reference numbers etc. for booking the Friday night camping in association with the SVX Club? Thanks again Ally Thanks Ally |
Quote:
Ally We have space for 20 cars, so consider yourself booked on the stand. Regards the camping, in theory the camping areas are away in other areas, not necessarily near the club stand. Last year, a few of our members camped up on the SVX stand, there was no problem with the organisers. Either way you will not have a problem. {If you are camped up on the club stand, you have to have the tent down by the time the show starts the next day, or else there could be problems. So no lying in the sack with a hangover, K?:D } When you arrive at the gate, tell them you are with the SVX club, they will direct you over. You pay them the weekend entry rate which includes camping as far as I know. Look up the link at the start of this thread. They will have the latest info written up there. Joe:) |
Morning alarm
 Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the event however I will have to carefully consider your advise about lying in my pit in the morning, I suppose it will depend how far my friend and I will have to push the svx to get there!! Thanks again Ally |
I think I will miss this years show  family business all weekend, trying hard to get out of it.

Hi,
I havent been to the JAE before but am thinking of coming this year. Are there any spaces left on the SVX stand? Is it possible to come on the saturday morning early and still be on the stand with the other SVX' or must you arrive the night before? Oh and how much is it? Thanks John |

You will enjoy the JAE, it is a good, [and pretty big!] show Our stand fits 20 cars, so we have lots of room. You can come Friday or Saturday or Sunday, whatever suits you. The cost is £20 for your car for all weekend, see http://www.japcarclub.com/jae/ and in addition you need to pay Phil Hill for the stand space. I think that is £1 only, check with Phil when on the stand. Your car looks very good, and I would love to see you there, and see your car also. I suggest you also bring a huge FOR SALE sign for the window, it is a place where Jap car enthusiasts come, you may get a customer interested in your motor. Joe:) |
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info, and for the kind comments about my car. I would really like to come to see my car with some other SVX's, and obviously it sounds as you say, like a great opportunity to sell mine. Unfortunately that weekend is also BUGJAM! And as you may see in my little picture avatar thing, I am a VW Beetle driver!! Such a decision as I have been planning for Bug Jam for ages, however I may have a change of plans now. Which day tends to be the "biggest" would you think? Saturday would suit me better as I have a family meal on sunday evening, but often sundays seem to be the more popular days for shows.... I'll keep you posted as to my plans. Thanks again for your reply and comments. John:) |
I think the Saturday is the biggest day.
People are arriving on the Friday, setting up and so on. Some leave early on the Sunday. Everybody wants to be there Saturday, and stay over Saturday night for the fun. Of course, if the Sunday is a fine day, there will be a lot more of the general public coming for a look. But I think Saturday is the big day for the car nuts. Joe:) |
Torn between two lovers......
Hi Joe, Phil and every one else...
I've been holding off for some time now before making my mind up over the JAE show, and I'm sad to say I will have to give it a miss this time due to building work going on at home and a wedding in Cyprus..........and belive me, I know where I would rather be!! I feel bad letting the side down as I know the SVX owners being a small goup of 'die hards' need all the support going. Although last year was my first time at the JAE, the folk I met there were 'top poeple', and what a laugh too...anyone reading this who are going for the first time.....trust me, you wont be disapointed! and are made most welcome. My own SVX is going ok for now, back box starting to make a rattle and sucking air so will have to replace soon......oh, out of curiosity, my SVX was starting to slip out of second when on light throttle, so after searching the net for clues I dumped the Smallcar quick shift I had fitted and cleaned out the TPS with electrical cleaner.....so far (touching wood) no more problems. A quick question while I'm here, I'm fast aprpoaching the 90k mark and will be needing to put it in for the service which inc timming belt etc, whats the going cost I should expect for this? For all those going to the JAE, have a good'un and if not before, see you next year.... John from Scotland... |
Do we have a plot or some idea where to go on the site, a map even !
I should be along about 1200 on Saturday. Arthur |

Have a look at the enclosed link: http://www.japcarclub.com/jae/info.html We are in a different position than last year, far as I can see. Unless I am mistaken, last year we were down in the rhs bottom corner. This year that stand seems to be long stay camping. We are up near the centre. If you come downwards from theorange coloured "service area" at the top, you will see us beside Scooby City. Looking forward to seeing you there. John and I are catching the ferry tomorrow. Joe:) |
Quote:
Hi John I can't help you with the service costs, I don't know English prices. Hard luck you can't make it!!:( I'm just going to have to drink all that single malt myself, won't I? Or myself and Phil. Or Phil and Angie and Brett.? Errr, OK, enjoy the wedding, we will have to muddle through!:p ;) :D |
Hi everyone,
Sorry I can't make it this year. Drink one for me, will ya! Wishing all a great time. Quote:

Was thinking about you earlier. I'll be in touch after the show, hopefully some news, but definitely some photos. See you Joe:) John & I are heading for the ferry pronto!! |
Okay it looks like I am definitely coming to the show now so I'll see all you guys tomorrow. I'll try to arrive about 10 I think. Then hopefully some nice helpful marshals can direct me to the right spot.
see you tomorrow |

See you tomorrow. Bring the big FOR SALE sign with you. Joe |
Hi Everyone!
Great to meet those of you that came down and were there on the saturday. I admit it, i bailed out on the saturday during the storm, but I had a family BBQ to be at, and by the time I was home the sun was out again so I expect those that stayed enjoyed a lovely evening? I didn't sell the SVX but it is still for sale should anyone know anyone who is interested or would like to make me an offer. Failing that I will keep it for another winter as it is a heck of a lot more practical and confortable than my bug for the English weather! Cheers everyone :) John |
Hello John, Hi everybody,
John, I can't blame you for bailing out. That was an awful storm, but we did manage a lovely barbeque ourselves later on, and the fireworks show was very spectacular. Thanks everybody for coming. Many came from very long distances, and we had four or five new cars not seen at shows before. A few old friends could not make it, but lots of things going on at summertime, so it's understandable. I have a few photographs, but stupidly forgot to take my camera from the hotel Saturday, and regretfully, I don't have a shot with all the Saturday group of owners together. But thank you all for adding to the fun, it was really great to meet you. On Monday John & I called to Graham in Taunton and collected a gearbox for Betty. Hopefully I will get her driving properly soon. We arrived home at 09.30 this morning after 25 hours travelling, so I am bushed tired, going to bed early. I'll post photos when I get them processed. Thank you all, a great meet, and we are planning something a little special for next year for the 15th Anniversary. Joe:) |
Feedback : JAE 2006.
Just a quick note to say thank you to all the SVX'rs who attended this years JAE at Peterborough. I'm sorry that I couldn't stay on site with you guys longer, but it was great to meet some new faces and see some new cars, as well as catch up with some friends from previous years.
Many thanks to Joe for being the man on hand the whole weekend, and thanks to everyone who had a "whip round" to cover the cost of the pitch. We have been given a feedback questionaire by the organisers, and I will endevour to get it scanned in put into my locker for those who wish to complete it. If anyone has general comments then please either post them here or send me a PM. Once again thanks to everyone for making this years SVX display a success. Phil. |
Thanks Phil
Thanks Phil
It will be good to get a look at the feedback form when you have it scanned. I have already thanked all of you who came. Mad summer storm apart, it was a good event, I hope everyone had a good time. In particular and on behalf of all the SVX owners involved I would like to thank Phil for doing the organising of the plot, and for coming down Saturday with the banner. It was above and beyond the call of duty taking background circumstances into account, and really good to see you for an hour and have a chat. I hope things go smoothly, and I hope next year you can both attend, looking forward to it. Joe |
Feedback form and Thanks !!
Ok, I've put the feedback form into my locker under JAE 2006 folder. If this works then heres the link : http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...Hill/37226.PDF
Thanks for the kind words Joe, I hope everyone was inside for the storm because if it was anything like a heavy as the one we had in Lincoln then it was a heavy one !! Anyway, as before, either fill in the form and feedback to me, or just PM me and I'll collate them before sending the in to Claire at "the organisation". Phil. |
Photos!!!
If you have a look in my locker, I have just uploaded a number of photos taken at the JAE show, Saturday and Sunday.
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?svxistentialist|37790 Some of these were very kindly sent to me by lads who attended, thanks Ian and Mark. If anybody else has more, please forward and we could have them all in the one folder. Or let us know if you have uploaded to your locker, so we can view. Thanks to all concerned. We had a great time, rain notwithstanding:eek: Joe:) |
