WRX STi wheels and new tires

After a lengthy search and being outbid on eBay a couple of times, I finally was able to buy a used set of WRX STi wheels in really nice condition at a good price. Had a set of Yokohama Avid H4S 225/45 17 installed and I am extremely pleased. I had been sporting a set of the 16x8 RX7 wheels w/Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S tires, 225/50 16. The Pirelli's are excellent in the rain, provide superb traction and are pretty quiet. In spite of having a smaller sidewall the Yoko's ride a smidgen better and are even quieter. Turn in is also a bit quicker, a combination of the 17" configuration and the slightly less tractive compound on the Yokos? The Yokos are a 500AAA wear rated tire as opposed to the more performance oriented Pirellis, which are 400AA rated. The Pirellis are Z rated, for very high speed operation and are an ultra high performance all weather tire. The Yokos are only H rated and a harder compound, hence a much higher wear rating. I live in San Diego where we get little rain much less hard rain. If you live in an area where you've got hard rain and / or snow I'd go with the Pirelli. But for the money the Yokohoma Avid H4S is an excellent tire that rides well, is quiet and should last at least 35- 40,000 miles, even on an SVX.

Yea. I thought the same thing! I guess he is selling his old tires and rims because he just bought the wrx ones.

LetItSnow 03-31-2008 01:18 PM

Um, I can vouch for the RX7 wheels and Pirellis... By some strange coincidence, that's exactly what my Pearly wears when the Blizzaks go away.

Still, this is all very mysterious!

By the way. I thought that the WRX rims didn't fit our cars? I was told to get the STI BBS ones only. Is that right?

jdm Sti wheels?

Whats the difference (if any) between jdm Sti wheels and US? Waht is a typical price for a used set to fit the SVX (05+)

the earlier ones didn't, the 2005 & 2006 definitely fit

This is the response I got from Eric(ItsJust Eric), so who is correct? "The wheels are the oem equipment from the 05-07 STI. the wheels from a wrx wont work, because they use diffrent hubs...Just the sti wheels fit, and only from 05-07. "

AndrewR 04-01-2008 07:39 AM

Every USDM Subaru is 5X100 EXCEPT All Tribeca, All SVX, and 2005+ WRX STI .

All WRX's are currently 5X100

CorSVXette 04-01-2008 01:16 PM

OK. So call me a subi-newbi/subi-idiot:bash: what ever you want but as this is my first Subaru, are the WRX and the STI one in the same? or are they 2 different cars? Why did Eric say not to get the WRX rims only the STI rims will fit? :o

The STI is like an option package to the WRX.

Standard WRX's are quite different from WRX STI's, including the bolt pattern.

CorSVXette 04-01-2008 01:38 PM

So the rims from a "Standard" WRX won't fit but the wheels from a WRX STI will fit?

Exactly... The rims from ANY-YEAR standard WRX WILL NOT FIT the SVX... The only "WRX" wheels that will fit are the ones from the 2005 - 2007 (not sure about the new STI wheels) WRX STi wheels... They are made by BBS, have a 5x114.3mm bolt pattern and are either silver or gold with 10 spokes... If you bought anything else from ebay, they won't fit... Might as well jump on NASIOC.com and try to sell them there...

BTW - What are you selling in your original post??? I was very confused after I read it...

sicksubie 04-01-2008 03:05 PM

Correct, but I think that the 08's were all 5x114

Yeah, the 08's are the same bolt pattern as far as I know... Just not sure about the wheels and the offset. I think the 08's wheels are something like 8.5" wide or something... That would be pretty large for an SVX to fit under the rear wheel wells, but might be possible... Besides, apart from the $3,000 optional BBS wheels on the new STi, I don't think anyone would really want the standard 5 spokes
