OK for learning, but just wait until you are big enough for a proper bike

NapaBavarian 01-31-2005 06:11 PM

So, you want ugly but fast looking bikes? I've got the one that takes the gold medal! Boss Hoss motorcycles, made in the USA, in the quiet West Tennessee town of Dyersburg. Can you say 500HP V8 in a motorcycle? Did I just hear the Triumph (and just about any other road bike) wet itself or was it the rider?

We have a vendor just a block down from Boss Hoss and I got a chance to see these up close. They don't make any claims to a max top speed because no one has had the courage to take them any faster than around 180 MPH, at which point the bike hasn't even broken a sweat - but I'm sure the rider has.

Yeah, we Yanks like everything BIG!!!!!

You probably run out of gas before you hit top speed :D my favorite part- no transmission, just a single gear final drive that turns the output shaft 90 degrees :D not my style- but wouldn't mind riding one to 120 or so.

Sorry, Andy, but 140hp out of a 2.3 liter engine is not very impressive considering the BMW is putting out 167. The torque is pretty nice though but it had better be with that kind of displacement. ;)

I don't know a ton about bikes but...

the 2wheel enthusiests I talk to say that the BMW bikes are nice to ride but they lack the real get up and go you want out of most availble bikes. This bike remided me of the Honda Intercepter pictured here. I think it's a beter deal at 2/3 the cost of a Bavarian motorcycle. Just my $.02

Here's another example:

BMW R 1150 RT
Displacement 1130 cc
Horsepower 95
Price:$16590

Yamaha R6
Displacement 600 cc
Horsepower 123 bhp
Price:$8499

Why pay more for a brand name? The state patrol bought a whole fleet of these if it's any consolation. But Crown-Victorias aren't exactly the cream of the crop either if you know what I mean. Buy what you will, I just hate to see people waste money.

NapaBavarian 02-04-2005 12:27 AM

Yamaha R6 = 50# torque @ 12,000 RPM

BMW R1150RT = 74# torque @ 5,500 RPM

These are 2 very different bikes- one (BMW) is a touring bike of the highest class, the other (R6) is possibly the best road race bike in the world- the bigger race bikes tend to corner slower than the 600cc bikes. If you want to go really fast for an hour or 2 the Yamaha is great, but not for touring several days on end, or even a slow senic ride. The Honda Interceptor is another sport bike, try this for comparison to the BMW.
