Help, my SVX keeps stalling?
My 1992 SVX keeps stalling on me. I have an auto tranny as most do i'm sure. It seemed like a plugged fuel filter so i changed that and it still did it. It doesnt do it all the time it is quite sparatic in nature. I thought ok, i'll check the fuel pump. I replaced it as the pressure was a little lower than normal. Runs stronger now but still stalls out on me. I thought it may be vapor lock but have heard that, that is not too frequent an issue with the SVX and it has never done it before now. I am wondering if the O2 sensors may cause this stalling problem?
Any ideas that you all can give will be well appreciated. I dont like to be frustrated with my SVX I want it fixed. Thanks, Mark smith_colorado@attbi.com  |
When does it stall? When you stop for a light? When you floor it? Does it have a rough idle?

My guess would be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), you might try cleaning it, as a few people have had good resultswith a good cleaning.
There might be a write up in the "How-To" locker, but I'm not sure. It'd be the next thing I'd try. |
It seems to stall when the RPM's drop towards idle, so when i'm slowing down or turning or just coasting behind slow people. I havent noticed it do it when i am accelerating. When it starts to stall sometimes i can slam on the accelorator and it will keep it going. After replacing the fuel pump and filter it idles very smooth. No Idea?

I searched about, on the site and came accross a way to test the trouble codes. I did that and it came up with a code 23 which is the Air flow sensor. I searched for more on that and they say if i clean it ever so gently with a fine mist of carb cleaner and then let it air dry, I can save it or fix it. I will try that today and post the update. Wish me luck! :)

Mine too
Mine stalled out at start up.....it would turn over...but wouldn't hold the idle.
The dealership narrowed it down to it being a Fuel Cord/harness. The part #: 81802pa100 Only a $36.00 part...no idea where it is on the car though It's at www.Subaruparts.com It might be worth a try. |
