To keep or not to keep?

Right now i have a 1995 Subaru SVX LS Emerald Green. And i dont know if i should keep it or not. I dont know if you guys like to race the svx or not but i personally do. Right now its starting to give me a little bit of problems with the tranny. Which is why im wondering if i should just sell the car or is it worth it to replace the tranny with a 5 speed sti tranny instead. By any chance do any of u guys know how much it would cost for the sti tranny to be installed or should i just go and sell the car?

Sounds like you didn't do very much research into the SVX before you bought one if you are so quick to sell because the tranny is starting to go, heh.

First of all, please explain the problems that your transmission is having. It may be a quick fix (search the site for the many, many threads on tranny problems).

Second, the 5spd swap is from the WRX whereas the STi one is a 6-speed. I think the parts and labor for the STi 6-speed (providing you can find a place to tackle it for you, or sucker Tom into doing it for you or something, heh) is in the $6k area.

...and I guess I don't understand your racing comment, or its relevance to the tranny question.

If you are racing it, that is probably why you are having problems with the tranny. The SVX is not a race car. It is a touring car and is not meant to be treated that way. It will give you lots more problems if that is what you are doing with it. If you are, I would suggest selling now before it is a total mess and not worth anything. :(

Well since im going to explain the problem on the tranny, then i might as well tell about the condition of the car.

1995 Svx LS Emerald Green
Everything is pretty much stock except for the rotors, which i have zinc plated slotted rotors.

The car has a brand new paint job on it. The only dent that i know if is in the passenger side quarter panel which i believe i forgot to fix before i painted it in body shop. its a small one about 2mm in size.

The car does have 130,600 miles on it. Which is probably why it has a tranny problem.

It has a reconstructed title but the engine runs fine with no problems. No known steering or bearing problems at all.

Known problem up to date: The car will not catch the first 2 gears and reverse gears:( . So when i took it into the technician to take a look at it, he said that it was the line pressure that was off and the solenoid had to be cleaned. Once i got it back, it ran fine again for about a month. Then the trans was doing the same thing again. This happened after i went a little to fast with it.

Thats pretty much all thats wrong with it.

If only i could have saved the trans from the 97' i had which was in mint condition.

Do more research and will probably get a better decision...

If you have money to do what you want, Keep!!

Fellow Anchorage person!

If you are going to get any work done here in town let me know and I may be able to give you some insight. I have a lot of connections and knowledge of the goings-on around here.

you could always race it in the soapbox derby, or in San Francisco
