Rear Bearing

Well I decided to replace this myself after months of my hurting my ears! This was not easy and allot harder than I thought it was going to be but I saved a few bucks doing it myself just wondering if anyone else here has done it themselves and how it went?

My car is so quiet now i'm hearing other noises :-)

I just had my right rear bearing replaced, and I paid a whopping $250 for it (I didn't replace it by myself). It was worth every penny because of how quiet it is (and now I can actually listen to music w/o turning up the volume to the max)!

I would rather pay for somebody to do work on my car as opposed to me doing it because I get the peace of mind of a one year warranty on the part and labor (and, besides, I can't tell my ass from my hands when it comes to working on cars). Example: I had the bearing replaced on Monday, and I went back to the mechanic on Friday to bleed the brakes (brakes weren't spongy before bearing replacement). It took him about 20 minutes to do it, and he didn't charge me. The brakes now feel better than ever!!

Its a fair bit of work if you do it yourself. Mine was out of commission for about 2 weeks when I did it, but I did mine the hard way and pulled the hub off. This way is more labor intensive, but it gives you the chance to look for rust in hard-to-access areas of the rear hub assembly. If you get a hub tamer, I think its much easier to do the bearing replacement because the hub doesn't have to come off.

Yeah I pulled the hub assembly off w/ a axel puller then removed the outer plate and took the hub to napa for them to press the bearing on, it took me about 3 hrs start to finish and i've never done anything like this before it was a pain but at the same time things came off allot easier than I expected.
