Stuck in park, ABS light on, HELP!!!!
I have a 1994 SVX and I've got a problem. I went to go to work yesterday morning and started the car, then noticed that the ABS light stayed on and I couldn't shift the car out of park. The shift override wouldn't work either. Has anyone had this problem before? Is it a relay that's bad? Please help!!!
Thanks in advance. |
The ABS light, as far as I know, should have nothing to do with the shift out of park.
When you step on the brake peddle do you hear the relay clicking in the center console? Maybe you are not stepping on the brake hard enough? Try pushing the shifter forward and then stepping on the brake. You have a shift lock button and it doesn't work? |
It's done this to me before and one day, it just decided to work. But the ABS light came on last time too so it must be related, right? Gotta be something with the brake, right? Could the ABS system be finding a fault somewhere and not allowing the shift lock to release? I'm replacing a relay so we'll if that helps.

Let us know what you find out please, so if it happens to one of us, we will know what to look for first. Thanks and good luck. :)

You could have a problem with the ABS as well, but the manual shift lock override button is purely mechanical, so there is no way the ABS could stop you from moving the shift lever if you use the manual button. It is likely that you have some other mechanical problem that is preventing the movement of the shift lever.

What happened in this case? Did you get the codes generated by the ABS system?
