Replacing AWD clutches?

Can someone throw out a rough estimate on the costs involved in replacing transfer clutches on a AWD that is only running in FWD?

Thanks

LAN, YT, and OT are the only ones I know who have done this, outside of trans shops.

Depends, it is not very common, although it does happen, that the clutches wear out. usually it is a solenoid issue or a breakage in the transmission. What car do you speak of?

I replaced my plates when my duty solenoid c went out on my '92.

6 31588AA060 PT070399 TRANSFER PL $11.29 $67.74
1 31942AA090 VALVE AY TRANSFER CL $78.87 $78.87
2 31954AA071 GASKET TRANSFER VALV $1.16 $2.32
1 31337AA120 GASKET TRANS CASE RE $3.73 $3.73
...From subaruparts.com.

You might expect labor to be at around $200 from an independent shop, double that for a dealership. I was quoted $150 to replace all the parts above but it ended up costing a lot more since my clutch drum was sheared off. I do all my own work now...

Fyi... I believe the transfer plates/part numbers are different depending on the thickness of the first pressure plate.

actually all clutches are different I had mine replaced and they had to pull the clutches out and measure to find out which cars part had to be ordered. they then ordered them but svx clutches are NOT around anymore but other subarus are so I have different clutches than SVX 1 is from sti 1 legecy dont remember rest but you get the idea

I did it once. It's a relatively scary repair to do on your own. I did it on a Legacy, and I think it cost me about $200 in parts. The clutch pack was the bulk of that, with gaskets and the solenoid taking up the rest.

I believe that Level 10 sells a clutch pack kit that might be worth checking out if you do your own work.
