What's up with Mr Gates ???

I've owned Apples (Apple IIa and Macs), Sun SparcStations, and a lot of PCs over the years. I usually buy AND register my software.

So imagine my surprise when Microsft sent me a full copy of the new Office Professional (Word, Powerpoint, Access, Excel, Outlook, Frontpage, Publisher, and OneNote) - FREE - writing "...we wanted to get it into the hands of our best customers as early as possible".

So, what's up with Mr Gates? Maybe Mr Dicken's ghosts visited him over the holidays.

wow, thats 500 bucks delivered to your door.

Is it for Macintosh? If so, they are trying to get more customers that way.

I don't think they'd do that for PC edition of office 2k3 that just released. Too soon for free edition. I got 2k3 through my sources. Also, you can get it if you are registered using MSDN as a developer (often for offices and that's how I normally get my updates when I was working).

Unless you have some form of developer/select edition, the updates are becoming a pain to get through MS now that they are cracking down on the stuff. No legit copy, no software update so you are stuck with buggy POS.

I've received several copies of it. It seems to be triggered by registering office 2000. I guess they figure that since the OS and office suite cost more than a computer, they better do something to keep the customers interested.

It was for the PC. I'm not a developer or listed anywhere as a software approval manager or whatever.

I think Doug may have found the clue tying it all together. I have a couple of copies of Windows XP and a couple of Office XP registered, so...maybe they think if they give me one, I'll buy others?
