The only way I know for sure is to look at the dip stick. It should be running when you check it. Did you loose all of it, or just have a major leak? Good luck. :)

lol i knew that much i was just curious about all the air in the lines and how to get it out properly do i just go through the gears with it running not moving or drive n stop drive n stop ? i cant afford to have major problems with it at the moment:(

It will pump the air out on it's own.

Add some fluid, run the engine in park for 30 seconds, then shift through gears, back to park and check. Repeat as necessary.

Is there anything on the stick? If so, add a quart at a time, if not add 2 quarts at a time until it registers on the stick.

Also, overfilling is bad, and it's hard to remove just a quart ;)
