Official MLB thread

i thought i would start a thread for all the baseball fans out there. Anyone can post any and all baseball info in this very thread. Tonight was full of blockbuster deals and possible deals. Looks like the big unit is headed to the yankees  . Doesnt anyone find it absurd that the yankees payroll is over 200 mil while the devil rays have a payroll of 32 mil? My phillies got keny lofton and john lieber....dont think thats going to make a world of difference but if pat burrel can return to his form from 2 years ago i think we have a shot although the NL East is going to be very interesting with the mets aquisition of pedro and the braves getting Tim hudson and having a great starting rotation.

Soobie,

I don't think Pedro Martinez will do that much for the Mets. They desparately need bullpen help and a real first baseman.

With the addition of Tim Hudson, the Braves have the best starting rotation in the NL east. Their staring rotation is Smoltz, Hudson & jarret Wright (failed Yankee physical). If they can keep JD Drew, they will be the team to beat in the NL East.
Your Phillies better get off the dime and do some trading. They really really need a good catcher.

Let's talk baseball at tomorrow's SVX Meet. I think that Gary (MoreIBNR) is a Met fan.

I am a Yankee fan. There is a deal in the works to bring Randy Johnson (not Aredubjay :D ) to the Yankees. Personsally, I don't think that is such a good move for the Yanks. I think they should go after some of the Florida Marlins staff.

I also think that they MUST rebuild their minor league system which "George the Boss" has wrecked over the last 8 years.

Well I think Pedro might do more than some people think. Ive heard of people saying the NY media will kill him. The guy came from a place that had the most insane fans in the world...dont think the media will affect him that much. This also spices up the subway series a little bit as well. As far as the mets needing a true first basemen ive heard that their next move is to grab carlos delgado. And as far as the phillies needing to do some trading.....this is my biggest gripe with Ed Wade. Phillies management claims that they have filled all the gaps in the lineup by adding a starting pitcher....center fielder...and signing rheal cormier for the bullpen. Phillies apparently tried to go after sandy alomar but that trade fell through and nothing happened. Would have been a whole reunion of the tribe in philly if that happened. Phillies have bever been a team to go out there and sign the big name free agent or trade for big people. Jim Thome was their first huge free agent signing on a long time or maybe even ever. The braves are definitley the team to beat in the NL east...as they always were because they've won a million straight division titles. Sad to say they dont even sell out playoff games....maybe because its an every year thing to them but i dont think atlanta is a good sports city anyway. More to come at the meet tomorrow!

I heard Baltimore is looking at Sammy Sosa. I feel bad for the Orioles. They can't spend Yankee-Red Sox money so they can't fully compete. Baseball REALLY needs a salary cap.

Yea i agree with you on that one 100 percent. Baseball definitley needs a cap.....not just the one they wear on their heads  :D .

I thought i would revive this thread. My phillies are 10-11 and are struggling. Jime Thome is really off to a slow start. But Pat Burell started off red hot! Speaking of hot bats A-rod is on fire!

LarryIII 04-28-2005 08:05 AM

A-rod may be on fire, but the rest of the Yankees need to be hitting and the pitchers better start pitching. We may replace the Mets as the worst team that money can buy.

Soobie,

The Phillies will not win as long as Ed Wade and Montgomery are in the front office.

PS: The Oriole fans seem to be coming out of the wood work here at work.

Yeah everyone thought the problem was larry bowa. We have a very respectable man managing the team now and were still losing. This is the problem with 76ers as well....they dont make any big moves!!! Ya gotta make moves when your in a division with teams like the mets, marlins, braves....3 teams that have actually been to a world series in the past 6 years. Dont sleep on those nationals either. Their looking ok too. I'm impressed with Jon Lieber though....4-1 is a pretty good start when your not getting any hits.

Sidewinder 04-28-2005 11:21 AM

And the Brewers are really terrible this year... Usually they come out and start really well. This year, we didn't even get that luxary. They keep trading off our good players. At least they signed Ben Sheets. But he is injured and isn't playing. :(

Royal Tiger 04-28-2005 01:56 PM

GO ORIOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they can hang around for the summer at least. I'm going to try and see at least one in the best ballpark in the world, Camden Yards.

n00b on demand 04-28-2005 01:58 PM

Camden yards is a great looking park. Larry have you heard of the plans for the " new yankee stadium"....apparently they are going to make the outside look exactly like the old yankee stadium. I hate this idea of getting rid of the old stadiums....i like all the old ones better. Gives the game some flavor and more tradition and history.

fl_svx 04-28-2005 03:21 PM

Well, my Devil Rays are where they are supposed to be...wish they were in Tampa, outside !!!!! The Thunderdome is no fun at all. Maybe the Yankees can loan them Legends Field for free and threaten to send some of their big guns who are shooting blanks there.
