bad day yesterday

coming home from school around 10 pm. and there is a big cloud of smoke following the car on 95 south. car starts bucking and i pull over and open the hood find out car has leaked all its engine oil. the car is still sitting on 95 south on shoulder. might go look at it today and get it towed home. the oil pressure light never came on . so i think miy engine is toast :(

ooo man. :( that is harsh mate. did you change your oil frequently?

it was probably time for an engine rebuild anyway.

ok maybe thats not funny.

kuoh 10-18-2005 11:34 AM

Was it white or black smoke? Did you glance at the engine temp gauge at all?

Sorry to hear. Good luck!

How do you know that all of the engine oil was gone. Are you sure that it was empty? I am sorry to hear that. :(

unless the engine locked up, it's not toast yet. I once had a 94L that I've driven around for 3000 miles before I realized that there is no oil in the engine.

You had a power steering leak, when automatic trans oil hits a hot exhaust, (like the passenger side cat), it can turn into billowing white smoke...
Here's hoping for the best!

the day before i looked at the oil dipstick and it was fine. i change the oil every 2500-3000 miles. the smoke was coming from under the hood. the temp was alittle below the halfway mark.

went to go look at it today. looked at the dipstick and there no trace of oil on it. poured 6 quarts in it to make it level out fine on the dipstick. i drove to shop my dad knows and left it there. had my friend follow me. car was still bucked every so often. drove it ten miles to the shop. the engine was makeing noise. sounded like tapping. tell u more later when i find out

TomsSVX 10-18-2005 09:42 PM

yikes, hope this works out for the best

Prayin' that the worse case scenario turns out to be a slightly noisy lifter/adjuster. Good luck dude, hope it works out. :o

Good luck with her. If she lost all the oil though it should still be loosing it. Check your oil level again and see if you're overfilled. That isn't good either!!!

1992SVX 10-19-2005 10:34 AM

but when i parked it at the shop. i checked the oil level and it was still fine. maybe it was just a one day thing

Earthworm 10-19-2005 03:33 PM

Don't count on it. If it happened once it WILL happen again.

SSSVX 10-20-2005 02:28 AM

from my experiences compare to other cars, if the svx is not parked on level surfarce, the oil/tranny dipstick will give a quite not-very accurate reading.
