Door Stickage

Is anyone experiencing door and trunk stickage to to the cold weather? Everytime it snows very hard my doors are frozen shut and I cant get in, and none of my other family members ever have that problem. Sometimes it would get so bad that I had to fold down my backseat and crawl in the through the trunk. Yesterday my dad took it for a carwash and the people didn't dry it well and now my trunk and doors all were frozen shut in this 8 degree weather. It's getting very frustrating. I did a search and didnt find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?:(

Any car where the weather stripping seals as well as the SVX will experience this problem with the doors freezing shut. A way to avoid it might be to clean the area of the door jams where the stripping makes contact and apply a coating of silicon. This will not interfere with the sealing but should make it very hard for the ice to get a grip on the painted surface where the weather stripping makes contact and freezes. It should help with the problem you are having. Even a little vasaline smeared thinly on the weather stripping might help a bunch to keep the ice from bonding to it. Good luck. Mine does it on occasion and it can be a real b***h to open. Haven't been locked out yet but never say never ;)

Thanks! :) Do you recommend any particular products to use? And doesnt vaseline weaken the weatherstripping? I'm just wondering because they say that it will do that to latex on warning labels. Hehe.

I have no idea if it will harm the weather stripping...sorry :( I've never had to try it myself but it was just a thought that came to me while reading your post. Here's another thought... the tire shine spray that is safe on rubber would also be very non-stick for ice and should be safe for the rubber on the weatherstripping. So might Armorall. Might be a safer than the vaseline. The silicone should be safe I would think.

...or try Lexol Vinylex. i usually do all the weatherstripping and hoses, too, with this stuff to keep them flexible so they don't dry out. also good for the interior vinyl/rubber/plastic - has UV protectors.

I said to try it on your rubber weatherstripping, not on your rubbers! :p:D

I know! But I figured since they were both a rubber of some sort they wouldnt be far off. The weatherstripping on the SVX is so tight you wouldnt have to worry about the "swimmies" getting in :)
