Early '92 Fuel gauge issues
 

I've been fighting this gas gauge issue for a while now, if I keep it above a half tank the gauge works just fine. Anything below a 1/2 the gauge works when it wants to. It doesnt seem to be related to any shock to the system (hitting a pot hole for example) I tested the fuel level sender with a potentiometer and it appears to function the way the FSM says its supposed to.

I guess what my question is, was there any year specific issues/common problems that occured in the fuel system on the SVX's wth MFG date of 91-92?

I've got some long drives ahead of me this summer and having a gas gauge that works would be a nice thing considering Alaska has very few gas stations inbetween the big cities..

Did you test the ohms on BOTH sending units? I had issues on my 92 where on a full tank it would read full then 50 miles later it would drop to E. The main sender was out of spec slightly so I replaced it and it still didn't fix it. Tested the sub sensor and it was reading out so replaced it and it reads dead accurate now.

:lol: Actually we love Alaska! The people are fantastic!

Wife and I have flown up to Anchorage and back the same day quite a few different times... just for lunch. To a good pub up there with fantastic fish and chips!

One of my svx's does the same thing as yours. My soulution is to reset the miles to Zero each time I fill it up and I am safe for at least 300+ miles... Then fill up again and do the same thing... Works for me.

didnt mean to bring back an older thread of mine, but yeah I've wondered if the issue was with the sub sender. I've seen them fail on the early legacies and I think that car did the same thing now that I think of it.

When I was told to fix it at work, I was told the gas gauge didnt work (secretly I think the customer just never bothered putting more than 1/4 tank of gas in it)

This should be fun.. the parts SVX at work, the entire cab is filled with car parts/garbage... woohoo time to clean it out and rob some senders.

So as far as the 300 miles thing goes, even with hard driving I should still be safe for 300 miles? Problem with being here in Alaska, when I'm on the one main road across the state, you run out of gas you are gonna be walking for a long while before you see a gas station lol. Thats why I wanna fix the problem and not just have a sub accurate guess on my mileage and economy based off of just miles driven.

Test them both before you take them out of the parts car first.
