Engine dies while driving
Haven't been to the forums in a long time. Good to see that it's still going strong.
I am having an issue of of the engine dying while driving. Is there anything easy I can check on this? Sometime all the warning lights go up before the engine dies. If the fix is too costly I am probably going to have to trade it in. Anything obvious I should check before taking it into the shop? The fluids all look normal. |
Alternator.

Does it start right back up?
Does it have to be jump started? |
It starts right back up. When it happens, I turn on my hazard lights, put it into park and restart it with no problems. The negative battery terminal seemed loose a few days ago, so I made sure they were tight and non-corroded.

Any stored ECU codes? Possibly a cam/crank sensor or even the MAF sensor.
|
Alternator, battery or wires in between.
|
I smell the blood of a dead/dying MAF. The fact that it starts right back up screams MAF to me.
|
I'd say MAF too, but check the codes and see if anything else come up

Plugs and Wires?
Have you changed your plugs/wires and cap and roter any time recently? Are there any other symtoms?

there are no plug wires, nor Roter button, nor distributer cap on a EG33.... |
one of three things, mine is all three... MAF is going or gone, Throttle bodies need to be cleaned, or the alternator is beginning to go. mine was all 3, ugh

Yikes, these are the codes I get (and cross indexed with their meanings from svx-iw.
Should I clear out the codes and see if any or all come back? I haven't cleared out the codes in years. ECU error codes: 24 By-pass air control solenoid valve By-pass air control solenoid valve inoperative. (Abnormal signal in monitor circuit.) 32 O2 sensor 1 (RH) O2 sensor 1 inoperative. 34 EGR solenoid valve EGR solenoid valve inoperative. 37 O2 sensor 2 (LH) O2 sensor 2 inoperative. 56 EGR system (CAL.) EGR calve open/close stick, EGR hose disconnect or exhaust pressure valve damaged. |
That's a lot of codes...check you grounds on the motor.....and the main engine connections...
|
I had similar symptoms due to a tank of bad fuel. No ECU codes stored though. Did the problem start just after the last time you filled up?
|
While my check engine light had been on and off for a very long time. All the actuall perceivable problem did seem to start with my last gas fillup. However it is still happening after I filled it up again (albeit form the same gas station)
