Bits and Pieces

...Is what Im assuming the inside of my transmission looks like...

Car ran fine all day, never had a problem with the transmission. Then as Im leaving a parking space at the mall I hear a loud pop and the transmission locking up and unlocking repeatedly... Not sure what I broke... Assuming its an input shaft or something. I was barely even moving... When I turned the car off and back on I got the transmission code (12 blinks or something) on the power light... but now Its not sending one.... SIGH One month of Subaru ownership and the trans is out...at 120k miles.... and Im probably out thousands of dollars...

you can contact the dealer that I got the car from since or the guy who's # is on the ebay auction told me they put a new transmission in the car from a local shop and he would give me the #

Also I sent you a PM

Boxer6SVX 12-10-2005 12:38 PM

Doesnt really do me any good. I highly doubt theyll stand behind it and if i talked to them right now Id probably be screaming obscenities at them anyway...

pnyklr 12-10-2005 01:35 PM

Ya I had a few screaming matches with them over the driveshaft and also over the passenger window that didnt work when I left the dealer they fixed the window right away though and they were pissed I had the car towed to them to fix the window - lol

Does anyone have any idea what I have done to my transmission?

Hocrest 12-11-2005 09:01 AM

From your brief description, my guess is the front diff????

Rotorflyr 12-11-2005 09:02 AM

Could be time to go to a 4.44

Boxer6SVX 12-11-2005 11:28 AM

It goes into gear and everything just fine, no 12 power light blinks... feels like a dropped driveshaft... or a diff.. Im not familiar with awd cars.... I just know this tranny has less than 6k miles on it... Maybe its because I have been driving it FWD for a couple months waiting for time to get the rear dif installed... maybe it couldnt handle the power...

I just cant believe it did it at parking lot speeds... less than 5mph...coasting...

Ah well... its at a well known trans shop and the guy made a long hard sigh when I told him it was an SVX... hes worked on 3 of them. Ive got a grand left in savings... hopefully it doesnt rape me too much

Boxer6SVX 12-11-2005 11:34 AM

Makes a very metallic clanking noise at just about one complete tire revolution... so broken universal joint or something? If I put my foot on the brake and ease the power on it pulls then as the car rolls the clanking continues... with a very metallic clunk.... The more I play with it the more it does feel like a front dif because it will torque up then let go and clank again... must have sheared a pin or a ring or something... its what I get for driving 2,000 miles FWD...

And not to mention that the rear dif made the same noises when I got the car..... so maybe they replaced the trans and left the diff's as they were... someone must have been driving awfully hard..... The engine vin doesnt match the car, the trans doesnt match the car.... she must have had a rough life before me... but Im taking care of her.... I love my SVX even tho i do cuss her from time to time.

pnyklr 12-11-2005 12:12 PM

I had originally the dealer put in a FWD SVX tranny which wasnt the case
but that jerk Brian I got the car from (the number I gave you yesterday)
swore up and down to me that the transmission was redone thats why they had the car they took it as a trade in because it needed a tranny

"My friend did the transmission it was a local shop I can get the reciept if you need it"

Sorry you had to go through all the stress :( I went through plenty myself just to get the stupid driveshaft from those jerks who refused to put it in

I know I wasnt driving the car hard I didnt drive it that much

I even tried to get the money back just based on it not being AWD but ebay said it was too late when I found out :(

Boxer6SVX 12-11-2005 12:53 PM

Well the car IS AWD and has an AWD transmission... the second half of the driveshaft was removed because they sold it to you with a faulty rear dif... which got installed too late to save the front dif apparently... its just poorly maintained and now I get to shell out the cash to have it fixed

pnyklr 12-11-2005 12:56 PM

Only maintenance I did on it was an oil change and the exhaust I only drove it I think 3000 miles tops with no problems I had no clue

Boxer6SVX 12-11-2005 01:25 PM

I think it was just something that couldnt have been anticipated... but at least it will be awd when it leaves the shop cuz Im not going to drive myself crazy and freeze to death working on it...

Electrophil 12-11-2005 01:29 PM

It does sound like the pinion gear in the front diff has lost some teeth.

Just as mentioned above...... What a great opportunity to go with 4.44's.

Boxer6SVX 12-11-2005 02:10 PM

But wont I have to change the rear dif gear as well?
