Ot: Rx-8

I'm taking a break from re-arranging my bedroom (just moved back home for winter break) and sitting here reading a relatively new Car & Driver... There's a pretty good article about the new RX-8 and I just wanted to start a little discussion about it..

when I first saw it, I gave the looks a big thumbs-down, but I've always had an appreciation for rotary motors (a friend of mine has an old '70's snowmobile with a 1-rotor wankel in it. sweet.), so i gave the car overall a sort of thumbs-sideways.... now as I'm reading this article and looking at the pictures, the body is starting to grow on me.. the interior is super-nice, and the more i read about the Renesis engine, the more I want one. The only thing I wish they had done was make it a two-door.. It might even have been nice if they made it avaliable as a two-seater with more trunk space. I just really don't think those mini-suicide doors belong on a mazda. It's one thing to see them on a Saturn or an Element, but I dunno.. The pictures in the article don't show very well, but is there an "external" b-pillar, or is it built into the door?

The best thing about all these sweet new ~$30,000 cars is that in five to seven years they'll be affordable to guys like myself.. just gotta make sure it's been taken care of is all..

That's just the way that I have been thinking. If only it had AWD, flat 6...............

No B-pillar, just a huge opening from front to back.

What I find interesting is that they could build a rigid body with that large an opening and still end up with a car weighing a little over 3,000 lb.

Imagine a 3,000 lb SVX . . . :)
