I bought 6 OEM filters from 1st Subaru last large order, when I went to change oil, i found the filters look small! Does size count?

Looks good to me. I don't think I recall ever using a Fram that large before, then again, I stopped using Fram upon some discussion we had over their design a few years ago.
If you are a "bigger is better" person, I hear the 1985 or so Porsche 928 (or whatever it was) filter fits, and is about twice the size as Subaru stock.
Between you and me I couldn't find a place that stocked the Porsche filter. I might've had the incorrect year. Might be 1983.

The fram filter is correct, I have the numbers memorized. ;)
As for the porsche filter, they are really hard to find and usually have to be special ordered, plus are about 7$ more expensive than a fram filter that is the correct size for the svx.
(owner of a 928.)

Yeah I went out one day after looking at those pictures Files has through some auto parts stores little filter finder books and the 944 didn't appear to be listed for those years. I didn't go to the Porsche/Audi place but I didn't think it was too important.

I found the porshe filters at the local auto zone.

Purolator oil filter L30165, readily available at Advance Auto Parts. Not special order. Fits the Porsche 944.

(Thanks svxfiles!) ;)

I have had problems finding them too, but will check out those locations. Thanks :)

The small subaru one is correct....Those actually fit on imprezas too.
Size doesn't matter, it's how you filter the oil...LOL....the fram one I use is small like the subaru one too.

The Subaru oil filters are very small. I give them a second look every time I change the oil. I will look around for the larger ones. :) :)

CLICK HERE for some info on the different filters out there. Then click the "oil filter overview" link at the bottom of the page. Good stuff. Glad I've hated Fram since I used to sell car parts 20 years ago. Wix or Mobil 1 is all I use.

Good informaton on filters. Thanks for posting that. :)

The filters for the newer Subarus I have (WRX & Baja) are extremely small. Not just the OEM ones but the Purolator counterpart as well. I still do a double take.
