I see DDM Tuning dropped their prices on their kits to $35. Maybe I will do the fogs after all...

+ 1 on 5000K Has the whitest color and the most light output.

5000k fog lights are very white and look great, but true fog lights are yellow.

Your right - I was actually referring to headlights.

My 5000k's seem a little bluer than those posted above, I wonder if they may have shipped me the wrong ones? I was actually a little disappointed in how blue they were, and was hoping for more of a pure white... is there any way to tell what ones I have?

Just looked at 2 extra bulbs I have and they had no color marking on them, but on the plastic protective covers they were marked with the color temp. -
but that could be put on any bulb.

Most fog lamps including ours tend to scatter the available light low and wide. The object of this is to illuminate the road close to the car and to illuminate the verge, to help you keep your vehicle in the correct position in your own lane while you make your progress through the poor visibility.

If your fogs had actual so called "driving" lenses then the main light beam from these would be higher and forward. A very intense bright white lamp firing directly forward could in certain circumstances [such as heavy snow] create a lot of reflected glare which will in turn adversely affect the vision of the driver trying to peer through this glare. For that glare reduction reason it was traditional in fog lamps to use yellow beams as the lower frequency yellow light is known to be better at penetrating and to be less prone to glare.

However it's my opinion that if your fog beams are correctly focused low and wide [as the fog beams from the SVX are usually correctly focused] then you should avail of the highest light output you can get simply because there will not be a lot of the reflected glare the old yellow beams were meant to defeat.

So my vote would be #1 for the 4300K HIDs or #2 for the 5000Ks that John uses. I would not bother with the 3000s.

I did the 5000 fogs originally on my hi mileage SVX and they light up the world great!

Thanks for the input everyone!

Keith:cool:

Secondly, the supposed 5000 that is too blue sounds like they sent 6000 instead of what was ordered.

Re: HID fog lights

In very bad /heavy snow, I disconnect my headlights and drive with only the foglights.

Easy to light the roadway in front of me (as my speeds are slower) without having reflected glare from headlights reflecting snow back into the windshield abd reducing my visability.

The foglights are easily visible to oncoming traffic without unwanted glare into the eyes of opposing traffic.

Will be running a dedicated circuit to the foglights for this purpose, as disconnecting my headlights also leaves me without high-beam capabilities.

Re: HID fog lights

I don't want to hijack but I don't think its necessary to make an entirely new thread for my question..

On the DDM Tuning website, which kit should be ordered?

I was looking at the "DDM HID KIT SLIM BALLAST (35W)" but I don't know what bulb type I'd need (H1, H3, H4, etc) or if 55W would be fine for fog lights? I was thinking 35W cause they are less intense.

I want them to look just like my headlights at 6000k.. or I think they are. (Installing other fog lights at the bottom of the bumper later)

These are mine.. Look like 6000k or 8000k?

EDIT:

Also looking at "APEXCONE RAPTOR HID KIT (35W)" cause they're only $25.00. I'm guessing bulb type is 9006 for headlights but is it different for fogs?
