SVX Help, have 3 main issues

Hello ALL!:)
I am a new member and i've been reading many posts on how to fix my car. But there are some that i can't seem to find exact answer too. So maybe you guys wouldn't mind helping me out a bit. There are 3 main problems that i think many of you are familiar with but couldn't find the answer. So If you guys don't mind helping me out, that would be great.
Here are the 3 problems,

1) Just recently I was having shifting problems in 4th gear. It would seem to go into 2nd or something with high revs. I adjested the TPS (to 0.5 V)wich seemed to have fixed that problem but made others. Now in 4th is seems to only slip into 3rd (not so high of revs) but i only notice it when i am using cruz control.

2) After adjusting the TPS i have been having idle issues. With a warm car it will idle at 1100ish and then tries to drop lower. But the car starts to die and then the revs go back up to 1100ish. And the cycle contines. Sometimes with a cold/warm car it will idle around 1700 and just stay there. But if i turn the car off and on again it will idle ok with the above issue.

3) This issue seems to be known but not solved. Its a starting issue. Sometimes it works fine, but mostly it just clicks about 7 or so times before that starter kicks in. I read similar issues but no solutions. I think its a reply somewhere but don't know where to start. Oh yeah, starter and solenoid were jsut replaced hoping it would fix the problem.

Well those are my issues that i need help with. The first 2 are probably the same problem with the same solution but you guys seem to know this car inside out!! Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, one thing the SVX needs is a Lambo door kit. Would look sick with the Lambo doors. :D

#3 is ussually the ignition switch. There is a plastic part on the back of it that wears out over time and the contact can't be made to trigger the starter. Try searching for it, you'll see some pictures.

-EDIT-
This may help you.

try disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery to reset the ECU. Leave the terminal disconnected for 30 minutes at least. This should allow for the TPS adjustment to take full effect and it should drop you idle. With any luck it will fix the shifting problem you speak of as well. It sounds all too much like the typical high clutch giving but it may not be.

Thanks Tom for your input, i will give it a try.

Your starting problem could be the ignition switch, it could also be the inhibitor switch (nuetral saftey switch). Try switching to nuetral before you start the car. Also switch through the gears then back to park, then try starting it. If all fails, you can try the temp fix called 'starter relay bypass mode'. Good luck.

I have had the same problem with starting on one of mine. I have found out that it is the swithch. I will change that out and it should be fine.

Welcome to the site and I hope you get your fixes done. Good luck. :)

If the computer reboot doesn't help, Try this:http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?How-To|14267

I had some idle and shifting issues and it fixed it right up.;)

The shifting problems.

The shifting problems you say here.

This sounds like the brake band needs adjusting, it is used in 4th along with the high clutch. If it slips, the box will go back to 3rd. Search brake band adjustment.

Thanks all for your input. I tried the power disconnect like he said, but still had the idle issues. If its cold it will stay up jsut below 2000 untill it warms up, and shut the car off and turn it on again. When i adjusted the TPS I cleaned it at the same time hoping that will solve it as well. Wich it does, I don't get the shifting issues like i used to. Its just now i have the idle issue and cruz control issue.

If i don't use the cruz control, there are no shifting issues. Its only when i use the cruz it sometimes downshifts. Now something i didn't mention before (because i'm so used to it i forgot about it) but when i shift from 1st to 2nd it kicks out of 2st. and you can feel it unless you take your foot off the gas when its about to shift. So its that another indicator of that band adjustment you talk of???

Now on the weekend i also tried to clean the throttle body with the cleaner, it did help but it still has the problem of idle.

Thanks again for all of your input. I will look into the band adjustment and still thinking about the idle. Could it be the IAC?? read similar stuff but i don't know where any main components are in the car. I think i jsut found the ECM the other day. I'm still learning my way around. I am also trying to wire a remote starter in the car. And trying to get a good wiring sheet and locations. They say use the Yellow wire from the ECM for the Tach sensor. But there are like 5 yellow wires going to it. There is a bigger yellow wire, i think thats the one to use. But i'm just guessing here, if anyone knows about that install . . . . . (pictures help alot:confused: )

re: Security Bolts (Screws?)

Once they are out, just cut a wide slot across the top with a Dremel, then you can use a screwdriver to re-attach...:D

Cheers!

When the cruise control is it use, it uses very small throttle openings. Using the gears instead of bigger throttle openings. The Line pressure in the box is controlled by the throttle openings, so the line pressure is low, and the brake band is not applied as hard as when the throttle is opened wider. So if the band adjustment is out, it can slip under these conditions, but not when driven harder.

ok, i will looking into adjusting that from the how to section. I'm going to clear then read my codes tonight, maybe that will tell me more why i've been having my high idle issues.

Thanks

cookiemunstr 05-04-2006 04:55 AM

So i cleared the codes and I have no error codes, which is good but doesn't help me with my idle issue. I'm still looking into the issue and will post if i find anything. Thanks to all that have helped out with the other issues

The idle issue sounds like what i had after i cleaned and adjusted the TPS to 0.5v . What happened was i had not adjusted it properly so it started behaving the way you describe (weird idling). The tranny was shifting weird too. I finally readjusted and things worked fine.
