Wheel Sizes

OK, next topic ........... wheel sizes.

As the SVX is new to me, I need to ask about experiences with changing to a different wheel style / size. I have read a couple of bits and pieces on the forums that people have changed wheel sizes, then had to alter suspension, etc to fit in larger wheels. At present, my SVX has the original wheels and I'd like to change to a 17" or 18" wheel and have them protrude out a bit further (offset?) without any suspension / brake changes. I'm not sure if I fully understand offset, etc, but is it fair to say that the original is "55" offset and the smaller the offset, the further they protrude? Also, is the stud pattern 114.3?

I'd just like to give the car a little more of an agressive look, without being silly. The originals look a little too small and too far inside the body. Ideally I'd love to put on something similar to this ......

Any thoughts as to what to look for and not look for in terms of size, offset, stud pattern, etc would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Grant

Re: Wheel Sizes

i'm running this combo on mine 19x8.5 275/30 42mm offset front and 19x8.5 275/30 22mm offset on the rear (same offset as 350z) which fills the arches nicely, the only thing i needed to do was add some camber bolts to the rear and your tyres don't need to be as wide. if you don't want to add camber bolts then stay with 35-42 and 8-8.5x18s

Re: Wheel Sizes

For me, standard 18s from a current model Tribeca are perfect with the factory centre caps with Subaru logo.

All you need then is 225/45 tyres to have everything rolling nicely. Which I'm guessing is not what the person before me did when fitting the wheels originally... the existing wheel arch damage looks suspiciously like someone tried to drive with over-sized tyres on it. Doh!

Thanks, mate, for all the info' - that really helps!

Love the pearl white SVX! Beautiful! The Tribeca wheels suit it well.

Re: Wheel Sizes

Can I please confirm that the following wheels / tyres WILL fit the SVX without the need for camber bolts or any other issues please:

18" x 8" rims with 245/40/R18 tyres and offset 45+

OR

17" x 8" rims with 225/45/R17 tyres and offset 35+

Need a quick reply as they're on ebay!

Thank you! ;)

Re: Wheel Sizes

My summer Tyler's are running on 18" rims by 8" wide and using 225 x 40 and a 45+ offset with a 5/114 bolt pattern.
My winter tires are 215 x45 tyre 17 x7.5 rim 45 offset
I think the 35 offset with that wide of a tyre is going to rub, it will be close
Try using this it helped me

Re: Wheel Sizes

You might consider looking at some of the other posts regarding wheel size, especially with regards to concerns over handling and potential rear bearing wear with more of a "protruding" offset. The look you're going for looks great on the SVXs I've seen in the pics, that's for sure.

Re: Wheel Sizes

I have put this on another thread, but also just want to ask the Aussie SVX enthusiasts:

Saw a nice set of wheels on ebay. The new wheel size would be 17" x 7.5"; 5 x 114.3; 225/45/R17 tyres; BUT +38 offset.

According to wheel offset calculators, this means the wheels will sit 17mm further from the calipers and 17mm towards the outside guards. Will this fit WITHOUT rolling in guards / using camber bolts? Would this be too much stress on the bearings?

Thanks! :)
