Aussie dies in Dakar Rally.

Aussie Andy Caldecott, a KTM rider was killed in a high speed crash, in Dakar yesterday. Andy won the Australia Safrai 4 times and won two legs of the Dakar last year. A sad loss.

Isn't the Dakar Rally the most dangerous sanctioned event in the world?

I read that somewhere recently.

Royal Tiger 01-09-2006 06:39 PM

I would think that and the Pike's Peak hill climb. 130+mph and no guardrails over looking a 700+ foot drop.

The Dakar Rally holds this title due to the sheer number of deaths that have accumulated since it's inception. It's higher than any other sport.

I was agreeing with you. I think alot of them die, especially in years past, just from being so remote.

My brother, Michael Krynock, is racing in this race.
He is riding a KTM, and he thinks he has a broken wrist.
His # is 98.
Please pray for him.
Pikes Peak is a one day walk in the park, this is 15 days of land mines, hidden boulders, deserts, pain, stress, physical punishment that would break almost anybody.
But he is not anybody, he is my brother.
Please pray for him.

I've been watching him, did it on Friday, I didn't know the connection. Andy rode a leg, with a broken ankle last year. They really are Supermen.

+1

that race is brutally hard, and even to finish is a victory. any race that you have to be wary of DESERT BANDITS in a harsh environment is just......TOUGH!

Can any one of us remember anything in our lives where even the 'LOSERS" are better than "WE"?!?

Hi Harvey

Sorry to hear the news. It's a dangerous business, I'm sure fatigue leads to mistakes towards the later stages, but the speeds don't allow for a margin of error.

Deep regrets to Andy's family.

Joe:(
