Miles per tankful

I know that we have run with similar posts but now that we have had some really cold and snowy weather I'd like to see what we seem to get out of a tankful...

I get about 250-275 miles before I refill....>>
[actually I could get more because my light has never yet shone but the needle is so far past E that I am afraid of getting stranded]

how do I measure up on consumption????

When does your low fuel light come on????

Thanks

I get about 200 MP-Tank and thats about half and half city/50 mph hour driving daily... and that doesnt take me very far with a 40 Mile round trip daily...

I always use the auto-shutoff at the gas pump as a starting point for a full tank.

I usually go 325 miles before the low fuel warning light begins to glow. This is a combination of city/highway drivingIn the winter, using oxygenated gas, that figure drops slightly to about 300.

My best overall was caravaning from baltimore to Lafayette last summer; fill up to low-fuel indicator was 432 miles (all interstate)

I get around 400km (250 miles) on city driving in the winter on about 50 Liters (13.2 US Gallons)

Summer driving I've ranged from 475km (296 miles) city driving to 700km (438 miles) on the same 50 Liters (13.2 US Gallons).

I usually fill up immediately once the light comes on. I'm also using a fuel and oil additive that have increased my mileage by 15 to 20% from when I first got the car.

My car has 203,000km (127,000 miles)

miles/tankfull=400

It goes about 70 miles before it clears the bottom of the "FULL" line.
This is mostly highway driving in the mountains. The light comes on at about 400 miles on a good tank. 375 on a no-so-good tank.

After the light comes on you've still got over 2 gallons to play with.

Automatic = 310-320 miles per tank
5 speed = 360 -370 miles per tank

The tank is rated at 18.5 Gal. The light usually comes on when there is 2.5 gal. left; if you always fill up when the light comes on, you will rarely put in much more than 16 gallons.

If you are putting in more than that, 17 gal or more, your low fuel light is probably burnt out.

Lwin has posted dash removal instructions- which is what you'll have to do to replace the bulb.

My average

Driving around Orlando I get about 340 miles on a whole tank.

Interstate I can get close 400 miles on whole tank.

It's true! I keep track every time I fill up! Reset tripometer and everything.

Warning light will come on with about 2 gallons left.

When you fill up notice the final amount of gallons you put in....the tank is 18.5 gallons. You should have way more gas left.

I did an experiment a few weeks ago:

I drove one tankfull with the power button on and then one tankfull with it off. Both times I got about 245 miles before filling up. From the fuel receipts I worked out that is about 19mpg, so in theory I could have driven to about 265 miles before the tank was dry. This was driven mostly on country roads.

We used to get 23mpg when Bel was driving 100 miles a day on the motorway, about 320 miles on a tankful.

(I'm talking UK gallons here, not US gallons).

IIRC Joe (svxistentialist) managed to get better mpg by keeping the power button on during urban driving.

varied results

I am noticing that the results posted by many different members of the forum are somewhat varied in mileage, granted with different testing conditions. Personally, I get much worse mileage then I would prefer. I do occasionally have a lead foot, but I have done a mileage test emptying a full tank by driving like a granny. The way the mileage shows up now, my moms 97 grand jeep cherokee is getting better mileage by5-7mpg!! There is something just not right about that. Her jeep can pull off about 433 miles to the tank, whilst I can only pull off like 230 miles. Someone needs to post a few things that can be done to improve ones fuel efficency.

I'm dieing at the pumps right now. Everythings bumped up 25 cents in the last couple weeks. What happend to those days when we were complaining about paying 97 cents a gallon?

JLittell 02-25-2003 10:37 AM

I get 400 highway miles per tank.

Wife consistently got around 450 miles per fillup when she had the car. Mostly highway driving. She set the cruise on 68 and pretty much left it there.
I, on the other hand, normally drive 55~65, and get around 325 miles per fillup in highway driving. (I think I probably get up to speed quite a bit quicker than her, though. ;) )Unfortunately, most of my driving these days is in-town, which gets me around 225 most of the time.
