Power Steering Pump
 

My power steering is dead. The pump is making horrible grinding noises, which sound like a bearing failure. However, lots of the posts suggest replacing the O-ring between the header tank and the pump before replacing or rebuilding the pump. Could that really cause the noise?
Is the pump unique to the SVX?

pump is unique to the svx it has a speed variable power assist and Subaru doesn't list a rebuild kit for it like the legacys. Best thing to do if its making a lot of noise and the fluid level is fine is to replace the pump.

I would check the level of the fluid. If it is ok, I would try the O-Ring replacement and if it still makes noises, replace the pump. :o
