TR7
 

I'm having to decide whether I want to double my cost/investment, after only a few months of ownership in my SVX, and rebuild the engine.

Tonight I followed a TR7 home. I had a TR6 many years ago. The TR7, though, was, in my mind, always a ****box of a car. But this driver/owner had rebuilt his to be a lovely example of the marque that was being enjoyed on a nice summer night.

I think that I'm going to fix and then enjoy my SVX.

I had a 1976 TR7 once-- owned it for 2 years and the time it spent in the garage made my 'garage queen' SVX look like a daily driver. It was crudely built, squeaky, and everything electrical said 'Lucas' on it... some of you know what that means!

OTOH, there are many, many aftermarket parts sources for TR7/8's, making a complete restoration just a matter of knowing where to order the new parts from. SVX owners will be jealous of such parts availability soon, if not already.

Kid across the street had a TR7 and he was under it every weekend . finally after a few trannys and clutches, brakes ,shocks, carbs and other stuff he bought a brand new spitfire . I said about time now he can drive . 6 months later it was up on jack stands. When I am greeting customers at Lowe's , my one hour a day, I can see outside and there is my SVX . It makes me smile .:p

As most in the car biz know, there isn't much the british make (or have made) that DOESN'T have electrical problems. Or mechanical. Or structural. :P

I ran a GT6 for a few years, nice car. Just bought a '92 JDM SVX L though, nicer :)

That must be why there are 10 to 1 British surivivers to Japanese survivors from even 1970 on the road today.:rolleyes: Unlike Japanese throw away cars the cars are fixable with mechanical and electrical skills rather than needing to be a huge dealer network for parts and the parts replacers. All my Lucas (same part number as the TR7) switches work better than the switches in my SVX did. Plus they are able to be disassembled, cleaned, contacts replaced etc.
