cash for clunkers video with SVX
Here's a video I found on youtube of a fellow who found an svx in line for cash for clunkers.
Here it is. Sorry if this is a repeat. There are many replies on the video, so I have no doubt some of you have seen it. The guy has a good attitude though, and he really hates to see it getting junked out. |

Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
That's just sad. I wasn't surprised by the one I found here, but either way, it's such a waste, to see these going away like that.

Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
The other night i counted all the SVX scrapped by clunkers. The total was 126 or SVXi going to the scrapers. What a waste. I am sure at least half of them were still good as is when they were turned in and the other half just needed some TLC.
Here is a list of all the cars that were traded in. Ther are some pretty nice cars in there such as Aston Martin, Maserati, Rolls. http://www.cars.gov/files/official-i...n-vehicles.pdf |
Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
.
The final count for the number of SVXs destroyed in the Cash for Clunkers program is officially 126 Here is the breakdown: SVX AWD 1992: 67 1993: 4 1994: 15 1995: 16 1996: 8 1997: 2 SVX FWD 1994: 10 1995: 1 123 total Thank you Mr. Obama. For every car (including the SVX) that was destroyed, so that a new car would be purchased, the American taxpayer paid $24,000. That's $2,952,000 in SVXs alone! http://www.edmunds.com/about/press/c...icleid=159446& As a famous blonde once remarked: "Why should I pay for someone to rape me? I can find a lot of men willing to do it for free!" . |
Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
I remember 3 or 4 "Cash 4 Clunkers" SVXi that came through the pick-n-pull yard in Salt Lake City. I think they were all '92s. It was sad to see them there but I'm sure none of them would have fetched $4500 on the open market. I grabbed what was supposedly a rebuilt tranny out of one (so said the previous owner when I called him), even though drivetrain components were NOT supposed to be resold. The operators of the yard didn't care at all. I wonder how much corruption there was in that program.

Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
The funniest part is that the dealerships knew they were C4C cars, so they wouldn't negotiate on price or charge a higher price. Therefore, almost no one truly got an actual $4500 trade in when you actually break it down.
What a program full of fail. |
Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
My "clunker" with 292,000 miles just got 27mpg on a trip from SC to NY and I don't exactly drive slow.
What a crappy program that was. |

Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
Nissan Quest ? - 8K total
Grand Cherokee 4WD (gas guzzler, ancient WW2 4L petrol) - 25K Cherokee 4WD - 20K Ford F150 pickup around 15K Ford Explorer 4WD only - 43K Caravan/ Grand caravan - 18K BMW Z3 - 1 only Just shows you that the whole idea was to prop up the USA car indusrty.... glad that no other country does this, otherwise some of the other great "older" cars would never be seen again. |

Re: cash for clunkers video with SVX
This Edmunds "article" (actually a PR press release for Edmunds) is using the word "Taxpayer" instead of the word "Buyer." Every Buyer is a Taxpayer... so the logic is there... albeit, thin... read further... to clarify:
Taxpayers are not paying $24K per car destroyed... the Buyer is paying $24K per transaction to get their new car with their Cash for Clunkers trade in. The article needs to be read carefully. The point of it states that the CfC program might not have increased car sales during that period... since projections of car sales were looking to exceed what happened with the CfC program. Quote:
