shipped me a broken tranny!

Well I got my tranny from phils auto parts in Blackstone MA, and it had 19k miles on it and got it for 350 with shipping to my house. I got it looked ok not leaky or anything, fluids are clean no burning smell. So yesterday I went to sears and bought a jack and jack stands to start on the car today, guess what I see on the tranny, a bolt hole on the right side of the tranny is broken, which means that I have to either swap in my svx front diff, or get another one, but I dont think I can swap my svx diff because the tranny I got is a 95 impreza. I tried calling but the place closes at 12 and I found out at around 230. I hope when I call monday they dont say that I should of inspected it in front of the shipping people. I mean come on it says it has 19k miles on it how can a bolt hole be broken? And also the tranny is still on the pallet wit the two metal straps holding it down. grrrrrrrrrrrrr I wanted to work on my SVX TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you doing a rear diff swap to go with this tranny?

Call and see if they will take it back, if not I'll drive up there and smack em in the head. I get stuff from them all the time. In fact I have to call them this week about a motor.

Which bolt hole is broken? What's the bolt used for? Maybe there is a way around the problem.

Its the bellhousing bolt that connects the transmission to the engine. I did actually see a comercial where all you have to do a broken housing area is to clean the surface and solder this new type of metal, and its as strong as new, but I would still prefer another transmission.

When ever your ready:D Naw there good guys over there, went through a load of crap trying to find me the right gears for Alacritys car (but didn't have them). I'm wondering is it really one of the 4 bolt holes that hold it to the motor or is it just the little line up pin hole? It would seem really "REALLY" hard to brake off one of the bolting holes. If it's just the edge of the line up pin hole I wouldn't even worry about it.

Yea they did seem like good people, I thought it would be in mint condition guess I was wrong.:( . Its the one before the last hole on the right side which I think is the hole which lines up the tranny and motor. I called today but they were close. Yea I think the guy dropped it or something or did something wrong. It's still on the pallet with the metal straps on it and the information decals and cards :(

Subafreak 10-11-2004 08:27 PM

Yeah I wouldn't even worry about that. Most of it is still there (enough to still line everything up) Seriously if everthing else looks good just put it in. I don't know if youv'e ever had the pleasure of removing a Suby tranny, but those little line up pins can be a mother to get apart. :)

nothings going to happen if I install it like that? will tha tranny move or anything. I'm going to call them tomorrow see what they say

Subafreak 10-11-2004 08:39 PM

No it won't give you any problems, it's only missing a small corner of it. Not enough to worry about. I wouldn't sweat it if it was going in my car.
