Snap, Crackle, Pop.
No, I'm not talking about Rice Crispies here.
That's pretty much what I heard after closing the drivers side window this evening. Window no longer opens, although you can hear the window motor spinning away. I remember something about a little piece of plastic that's prone to breaking in there? Does anyone have a fix for that before I tear the door apart? Thx. VK |
Yeah, it's just that little plastic piece. If you do a search you should be able to find the part number for it. ($10)
The part should have been originally made from aluminum. Be aware that not the only thing holding up your window is tension and the window will eventually drop after a good bump. |
I guess I'll just have to duct tape it in the meantime. :D

You don't need the plastic piece if it only broke at the end. There is some adjustment in the wire's length at the motor and you can tie a knot in the end of it and attach it to the window frame to make it work. If the cable is too short or broke in the middle a brake cable for a bicycle will work ($1.99 @ walmart)

darn it
If anyone has the part number, it would be much appreciated. Mine just broke and my local dealer thinks it can only be got with an order of the whole regulator assembly. Big bucks! He did say that a part number might exist for it and if so, he can order it.... So, whats the part number?
 |
62101PA081 is a sleeve lock regulator. It is a redesign of the clip and is found starting with the 94 SVXs. Scott says it will clip onto the place where the 92-93 window clip used to be.
Evidently there was a problem with this clip and so Subaru decided to offer this as a replaceable part starting in '94. Check out here: http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=601-1 Cost of the part is $7.58 |
SVXCESS, you rock! Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. Part is ordered and be here on Friday. No more vice-grips to hold the window up!

Price of part from local dealer: $8.84CDN. :D
Pics are in my locker for the disassembly process. 1) Remove felt from door handle/storage, and remove 3 screws. 2) Remove panel from underneath door opening latch/handle, and remove 2 screws. 3) Remove 2 screws at the "front" of the door, and pry the door panel from the bottom to remove. Panel is held in place by plastic snaps. 4) Remove the trim/armrest support by removing the two screws. Peel back plastic for weather proofing. 5) Adjust the window motor cable using the power window switch until the little "nut-looking" piece on the cable is in this area. Fit the "sleeve lock regulator" onto this "nut". Adjust window manually about 1/2 way down. You will see the black metal support attached to the glass, with a square opening in the middle. Put sleeve lock regulator into opening and slide into place for a snug fit. 6) Reverse removal procedure. Time: Less than 30 minutes. Who said this car is expensive to fix? :D (I should learn to keep my mouth shut in case my car hears me and breaks something expensive...) VK |
