New to SVX

Finally I can post on this forum. Though not new to Subaru ( have a 2000, 2001 RS25, both coupes, and 2005 3.0R sedan ) this is my first exposure to the SVX . Mine is a Laguna blue , 1994 , originally a FWD, converted to AWD . This particular one was around the corner from where I live - I have not seen enough of them to have paid close much attention to them, But this one caught my eye. Literally, year after year, I would drive by, and it never moved in the driveway. Last inspected in 2016 , it languished. I would go out of my way to drive by, hoping to see a for sale sign, but that never occurred , Finally, I got to meet the owner, I told him, if he ever decided to sell, I might be interested. Well, kid number 3, and the fellow decided that whatever his plans were, it just wasn`t going to happen. He contacted me, I asked how much, he said $500, which was what the wrecking yard offered him. Now the last thing I need is another car, but how do you say no to a $500 car , which you`ve been watching for years ? Amazingly, it ran, even with old gas. The rotors, which are slotted and cross drilled were very rusty, from sitting exposed , outdoors, for years. The calipers were surprisingly free, lubed them up. Installed some aggressive semi-metallic pads, and the rotors cleaned up. Exhaust needs some the work, the transmission binds, the 4.44 gearing took some getting used to . But the car is solid . I live in wester New York, where salt is over used all winter. As this car originally came from Oklahoma, then Florida, sitting for so long means it was only exposed to one or two winters up here. It has hail damage, but not noticeable from a distance. Far from perfect , but worth saving. Drove it to work yesterday, and had a smile on my face all the way there. So far, the SVX people I have encountered ( on line ) have been very friendly and helpful . I apologize for this being so lengthy , but this car peeked my interest . Kindly regards, Kel

Cool ! Congratulations on your SVX. I grew up in western NY, original 315er, from Ontario. My Dad still lives up there and drives a 1992 ebony SVX (but never in the winter). I hope you have good luck with it. I would be willing to bet it was someone on this forum that owned your car at some point. Might be able to cross reference it in the VIN records that Earl keeps.

We live in Fairport, not far from Ontario . The previous owner was a member, as he tried to sell it on here, a few months back. This car will not be winter driven, as long as I have it . Hope to see your Dads car some day . Does he ever do the the " LOG CABIN " Wednesday nites in the summer ?

Hi JKP,

Welcome to our SVX family. We are originally NYC kids. Born and raised in Manhattan (Hell's Kitchen). We are now in Delaware (My old neighborhood had many more people):D. If you need help, I have the shop manuals. Hope you get it up and running well by next spring so we can see you & the SVX at the Reading SVX Meet next spring (I assume we will have a Covid 19 vaccine before then).
