Engine temp gauge

Is everyone's temperature gauge needle this high on the scale during regular driving? Or is it time for a new temp sensor?

It reads this high ever since I bought the car. There's no coolant leaks, no other noticeable heat problems, and ambient temperature hasn't been over 40*F for the past month or so.

Also, car usually idles around the RPM shown when in neutral, but I figure that's probably my bad TPS.

That's perfectly normal. That's where both of mine sit normally.

My temp is always on the dead middle.

I didn't try neutral but idle at between 500-900, depends how long I've driven. Generally lower when properly hot.

Looks like mine. Where did you think it would be? I do not get good heat from the heater til it gets that high.

I gathered teh idle speed of this engine at operational temperature is supposed to be around the 500 mark? Does this say anything about the engine's health?

Ok good. It was just bugging me because my old Civic and a few other cars I've driven all hover around 1/5 or 1/4 up the scale, not halfway so I was just concerned. :o

Better than mine. :P
I'm assuming my high idle is a combination of a bad TPS and a bunch of cracked 21 year old vacuum hoses in my engine bay.

Better to ask than to just assume it's ok. Also important to know is that it takes a relatively large change in temperature to move the gauge from that spot. That means even a little bit above where it normally is means a lot more heat.

Noted. That would explain why it doesn't move whenever I drive spirited with WOT.
