EGR valve????

Here's my question... What causes them to fail? to they become clogged with carbon buildup? Is it possible to clean them?

Why am I asking.... When the engine is cold, There is a ticking noise coming from under the hood... It is almost like a vaccume leak. But I've checked all of my vaccume lines, and no leak... I did however have a problem with the EGR valve on my old engine. Was doing the same thing (ticking). So I had that replaced and everything was peachy... I'm thinking that my EGR valve is bad now on this engine... Anyone want to comment??

Thanks :)

Ticking is usually a sign of a stuck lifter. Only way to fix that is to tear apart the engine and replace the Hydraulic Lash Assemblies.

Not the same ticking.... This ticking is the sound of a vaccume leak... It gets louder the more throttle I give it... I had the same problem with my first engine, replaced the EGR valve and all was well... (Ticking went away)...
