fuel guage problem ???

I just filled up my gas tank last night on my way home, and today I drove for about 28 miles and my fuel gauge was showing EMPTY. The red needle was all the way down. I turned off the AC and it went back up to only a quarter mark. I shouldn't have used that much gas already. I don't understand what's going on. It's been acting strange during these past 2 weeks. Everytime I fill up, the needle stays only at the 3/4 mark. It doesn't go all the way up to F mark. Do you think the Fuel Gauge needs to be replaced? Can any mechanic do it? I appreciate any infos or if there is any previous thread on this kind of problem, please help...

Viv, if you get it figured out, let me know. I'm having the same problem in my "newest" SVX (new to me, plus has a MFG date of 11/91 as compared with my first .10/91).

I think Beav had a few words on this topic not too long ago. The sending unit in the tank may be guilty of misconduct.

Ron.

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. I popped the panel over the pump on Saturday. Just shook my head and put the panel back on. Wasn't up to fooling with it on Saturday. Probably won't be this Saturday, either. Or the next . . . or the next . . .

wandering fuel guage...

I have had the same problem with the guage in my 92 Pearlie, every since I bought it. I posted a thread about it and had numerous replys.

Beav suggested pulling the sending unit, checking current with a meter etc.... did this, saw the problem and tried a fix to no avail...

I have since bought the sending unit and the slave unit from Stephen in Oregon. His worked before the demise of his car. I recieved an email from him yesterday and I should recieve the parts tomorrow or Thursday. I will post when I install the parts and we will see if this corrects the problem....

Wandering fuel guage and drooping visors really aggravate the %$(* out of me!

I just now have this "wandering fuel gauge" problem. The annoying drooping visors...? mine has been that way since I owned this baby. I usualy stick a quarter on the side to hold it up. It works temporarily, but someday, I will have to figure out a way how to tighten it.

My "new" SVX has PERFECT sun visors. :D

I'm lucky that my height keeps my head so close to the roof that I never use the visors. And lately I need all the luck I can get... ;)
