Time to rebuild the Little L
I just got quoted today for 2250 to get a rebuild and installed transmission to be ready in about a week. So I decided to go ahead and have them do it on Tuesday. Its been sitting for about 2 months in 5 degree weather since it died out in October.
It should be done before the holiday so I'm still kinda excited about it. And another question to the guys who knows a lot about this car. Should I install a transmission cooler to help prevent wear and tear on the low clutch packs? Because that seems to be the problem with my car at the moment. wont go into 1st, 2nd, and Reverse. |
If I had a dime for every thread I had to move...
Yes, you should absolutely get a cooler. Living where you do, however, the transmission may take a really, really long time to get up to temperature in winter. Glad to hear you're getting your car back on the road. |
I'm sure it will be nice to have your car back and running. Its just my opinion, but I would definitely install an aftermarket transmission cooler.

Sorry for posting in the wrong spot. I really didn't mean to do that.
I guess I will install the cooler for the car then. For now its just figuring out the size. Maybe a 12" x 8" will be good? I would like to keep the temp a little under 200 degrees F if possible. I would hate to fix this car again within the next 2 years. Anyways I live here in Alaska and its not really that cold. Only when we don't get any clouds for 2 weeks does it ever get that cold. Right now its 40 degrees out. |

When you fit the cooler, make sure that the ATF flows through the additional cooler first, then the engine radiator last, to ensure that the ATF does reach its operating temp. Harvey.;) |
Dayle at Motorsports bought a L FWD model new from subaru tranny for $600 plus shipping charges about 5 months ago I think. You should see if he still has it. It lists for a lot more so I have no idea what he'd want for it.

Only 50°F is required for 4th. 150°F is required for torque converter lockup. |
