sun visor droop
 

Hi,
Can someone direct me to the how-to instructions for the $2 visor fix?
I clicked around the how-to forum , did a visor search and can't seem to bring anything up.

My drivers side visor (on the 94 LSi) really flopped down about a couple of months ago, very annoying driving with it down.

Also, shortly after that, I started having electrical problems with my car- wont start at all until after a battery charge but I believe the battery is fine.

Edited to add: I read several old threads about this and may try some of the other suggestions, but it sounded like there was a how-to using the Hillman insert method that I might want to try.

The $2 fix for the droopy visor will be a velcro patch. You stick one side to the roof cloth and the other to the back of the visor.

This will keep it up out of your way, but will not allow you to adjust the angle as it will still be sloppy loose and will hang straight down.

If you do decide to use velcro don't use a big patch, use a small one. Too big and it will tend to pull down the roof cloth.

I forgot to mention; your visor has two fine wires feeding the light for the little vanity mirror. These give trouble. It is extremely possible one or both of your wires have got stripped of the insulating cover. They may be connecting together, or the live feed may be connecting to the visor axle, which is metal and would connect the wire to ground, i.e. shorting it out.

If this is happening it will drain your battery. Check the wires are not stripped or broken. If they are broken one of them will be "live". Put insulating tape on them to stop them shorting the battery.

I tried the Hillman insert fix on mine, but it didn't seem to work. I ended up buying a replacement one. Still it is worth a try.

Check out mine, I used an old carphone hands free mic to hold it in place.... and its super easy to pull down and put back up. You could even use velcro attached to the plastic trim adjacent to the visor if you dont want roof cloth issues, its easily close enough.

thank you all. I will check out the vanity light wires, perhaps they are causing the electrical problem. wouldnt surprise me and would be an easy problem to fix

i just went to junkyard and got a nice one. it was 2 dollars....for the visor.
