power shifting?

Sometimes when I'm waiting for a light to turn green on the highway (indiana has stoplights on their big highways... ) and I'm first in line, I like to put the automatic transmission gear mode selector thingamabob stick into first gear. when it turns green, i make sure it's safe to go (of course) and then i punch it. when i get to about 4000-5000 RPMs, i shift up to 2, another 3500-5000 RPMs, i put it in 3, then around 70 mph or 4000 RPMs, whichever comes first, i put it into D. Is this bad for my lil' car?

Anytime your slamming through the gears its gonna create heat inside the transmission, but there are worse things for your car. The car will automatically up shift when revs reach high enough as well. Minor gains have been reported while shifting like this at the track, so you just need to ask yourself A) is it worth it
and B) are you prepared for possible concequinces. persenally im at a point that i do a more then a few things that people consider to be deteriorating to the car such as nitrous and racing. So yes, its not the best for the transmission but its no nuetral drop either.

How would it cause more heat becides a because of a higher engine rpm? Its not that different from giving it alot of gas in D . It will deley upshift until points like that. Only difference is your telling it when to do it. I don't see how the actual shifting would hurt the transmission. I used to drive my old Volvo like that all the time.

It's your heart telling you that you really want a 5 spd!
