Squeeeeek from the right rear
Looking for some ideas on this one. I'm getting a squeak sound coming from the right rear. Goes away when I step on the brake. I removed the caliper and didn't find anything dragging. No, the brake pad wear indicator isn't dragging either. The pads and the rotor are new. Perhaps the leading edge of my pads are making this sound. I should've chamfered the leading edge to see if this goes away. I don't think it's the wheel bearings since they don't have that roar sound I read about on this board.
Thanks for any ideas. Ali 92 98k miles. Original bearings. |

Or it could be the pad vibrating. Did you use new shims? Some brake pad "glue" might help.

I assume my brake pads came with shims so I'm pretty sure I installed them with my brake job. But the wheel bearings going out is a possiblility that I didn't consider.
Thanks for the ideas. |
Rear handbrake
The rear hubs also house the handbrake, which is operated using a cable onto rear shoes in a hub, not the normal extra mechanism pulling on the rear rotors.
If the rear handbrake is sticking on, it might cause this. A way to find out is to pull the handbrake while travelling, and while the squeek is going on. If it changes, then it is the handbrake shoes, cable, whatever. Joe |
Another good one. Didn't even think about that one either! I do remember seeing the parking brake stuff while replacing the rear rotors. Thanks. Will check it out this weekend when I return home from Phoenix.

Best of luck with it alia. Might have worn down a shoe past the rivet, that would squeek.
Also may have dried out with heat, and the shoes are sticking in the on position. If this is the case, use that special bronze coloured hi-temp grease to lubricate[when in doubt] being careful to get none on the shoe faces or the hub rim. Joe |
