Turbo EG33 Powered Datsun

Well Its time for me to start a project thread. I have a Datsun 280z that I'm looking at fitting my EG33 into.

Here is the last picture I have of the exterior mock up.

Eventually when its painted and all the panels are fitted correctly it will look similar to this 240z owned by Darius K.

The drivetrain will be as follows:

EG33 with bellhousing and crank adapter bolted upto this tilton triple plate clutch and bellhousing:

Bellhousing Adapter:

Gforce Dog Box Transmission:

I haven't full figured out which turbo I'm going to run at this point. I'm likely going to do a 6-2 Divided T4 turbo manifold layout. I'm also playing with the idea of doing dual T3 flanged turbos.

I have a Precision 825HP intercooler from another project that will be V mounted and vented through the top of the hood.

I have 52mm ITB's for this engine, but I'm unsure if I will use them on the initial build up as its one more thing I don't have to do to get the car running.

First on my list is to get the current engine pulled out from the car. Next up will be accommodating the wider EG33 engine, as it won't clear the standard Frame Rails. That will be the largest obstacle to mounting the EG33. I need to machine the adapter plate and crank adapter once the transmissions arrives. I want to start making progress on this build as I've been collecting parts for several years now.

Here are the basic chassis dimensions of a S30(240z/260z/280z)

well good luck! I have thought about this project many times myself as I am a Z enthusiast as well. And like you, the biggest obsticle I have found is fitting the engine due to width. Also are you keeping the Z RWD or are you thinking of going AWD?

It will definitely be RWD. I have a RWD Gforce transmission that I will be using mated upto the subaru engine.

Just wondering, why and eg33? I figure you'd save a good bit and have more upgrade options with the Nissan 3.0 TT.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that he can mount it lower. The 3.0tt is a waste as well. Should've built the devil z:

The wheels I have now are similar:

I also have a set of those ZG flares I'm thinking of using instead of the wide body for now.

Weight, Unique, Sound, Length, Height, COG.

I also have a 2JZ engine that I could put in this car. The EG is just cooler, lighter, and just weird.

Here's the turbo I have lying around that might make its way onto the EG33 instead of the 2JZ. Its good for 1200hp (80mm inducer)

Rota RB-R? The BAMF ZG flares would be baller as hell. I'm treating myself to a nice 240z once I pay off my student loans in a few months.

And that turbo. Overkill much? lol.

Have you checked width? I had a 240z and a 280z. Both the bodies were to shot to salvage, but I'm not sure theres enough space between the wheel wells. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just asking questions to help you decide on your best options.
