new member introduction

HOWDY Ya'll,

Just a few words to introduce myself. I have owned my '92 SVX for almost a year now and have been lurking around this Network for almost as long.
I am usually what you would call a "LONER" and rarely engage in group activities, but I have often been tempted to comment in various threads. However, I have been held back by not being registered (which was probably for the best anyway); but I have truely enjoyed the many aspects offered at this site and keep coming back for more. The terrific Tech Support, How-To's, photo lockers, info/tips, conversations, and comraderie makes this one my favorite sites to visit.
I have frequently made use of the hard to find info on our rare cars for regular maintenance and upgrades (Tranny cooler mod, Alternator upgrade, Power Steering O-Ring fix) as well as major repairs (Frnt Axle/CV-joints, Brake calipers/pads, Wheel bearings, and soon a slipping tranny).
None of the garages here in Paris, TX have worked on Subarus or even heard of the SVX, so I'm forced to perform these labours of love myself. I would have been intimidated by some of this had it not been for the good HOW-To's posted by the knowledgable members here. I now look forward to converting my slipping auto tranny for the popular 5 speed manual gearbox. (THANKS Huck and others for the clear and encouraging instructions and photos).
I don't usually write long letters, and this is more than I have written in quite a while, but I felt compelled to thank the regular contributers (Ardubjay, Ensteele, Huck369, wawazat, Lee, Elninoalex, GreenMarine, Green1995SVX, and others) as well as all the other members who contribute when and whatever they can to the spirit of unity this great car inspires.
I can now and will be contributing my 2 cents worth in the future in hopes of assisting others and becomeing better acqainted with a great group of folks.
Sincerely,
Txcessvx

so don't be a stranger in the future. :)

I started out here lurking as I was thinking of buying an SVX. I did, and it was not well maintained :(

Like you there are no Subaru dealers - closest is about 75 miles one way. So knowing about this site and it's members was a godsend.

I suspect with the list of issues you have worked you have a lot to offer, jump in on the threads.

All SVX enthusiasts are welcome here. ( Was going to say nuts, but that would include 98% of us:D )

Don't worry about being far from a Subaru dealership. I am only about a mile from one, but I wouldn't let them service my push-bike. Find yourself a good mechanic and print out the How-Tos if you have a problem, half the price and twice the service.

welcome Txcessvx. here you will find good info, people, and laughs :D.

ensteele 08-03-2003 04:05 PM

Welcome to the site Txcessvx. Hope you find this a great place to post and get information like the rest of us. :) In the upper right hand corner, there is a link to How-To Documents. That is a very helpful place to visit. You can learn a lot from the efforts of many members here. :)

Wow, I've been singled out (kind of anyway:D !)

Welcome to the site and thanks for the props (old white guys-like me- saying this always makes me laugh!)

Have fun and get involved with discussions. There are truly some fantastic people here.

Regards,
Todd

nice warm welcome

thanks
for the warm welcome y'all,
I almost feel at home. (wish i knew how to work these smiley faces). I really appreciate you guys and gals and your hospitality.
I'm hoping I can contribute to some How -To's you mention, Ensteele; and perhaps a worthwhile Mod or two. (Although it would be hard to enhance what most of you folks have thought up and considered and already installed or dismissed)
I will be in and out of conversations as much as the War Dept. (the wife) will permit . She has first dibs on me, and often has other ideas of how I should be spending my time.
I do look forward to many conversations with others who share my interests and have interesting ideas and perspectives.
sincerely,
Txcessvx

Welcome to the network Tex. If your anything like the rest of us you may start to find it hard to stay away.

Aredubjay 08-04-2003 07:18 PM

ALMOST? Almost feel at home? Hell, take yer shoes off, set a spell, y'all come back now, y'hear! :D If you've been lurking for a year, you're not "almost" anything. You're "plumb" a member of the family. Glad you finally came out . . . er . . . let me rephrase: glad you finally joined in.:D Visit often, contribute much -- technically, or psychologically -- we're always looking for new psychotics. :D

A big ol' Kain-tukky welcome to ya!

TXCESSVX,

Welcome to our family. We used to have some Texas SVXers. PDsides (Preston) on the Yahoo site jumps readily to mind.
If you're ever in our neck of the woods (DE) you're always welcome sit yourself down and have a sip.

OK, site management, listen up. I have yet another brilliant suggestion, brought to you by "Box 'O Posts", a subsidiary of Ripimoff Industries.

We need a "Lurkers" forum. That's right, just log on, post, & say NOTHING. A sincere blank post is far more interesting than those loooong, boring rants about tranny & bearing meltdowns. Heck, nothing new there. Let's take a lesson from the Franciscan Monks. Silence is golden, & a quick read to boot!

Wadya' think?

Ron (shhhhhhh!)

PS - Welcome aboard TEXX.

Ron,

I agree. But, I side with the Dominican Monks. They are silent and also make & drink good brandy, the Franciscans do not.

Hey, My Dad was born in Paris!!....Paris, Texas that is!
