Single DIN Cup Holder
So I'm thinking of swapping my aftermarket head unit (single din) from the Legacy to the SVX and thought that it might be nice to add a cup holder in the extra slot...something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SAAB-...3A1|240%3A1318 Has anyone done it or has any thoughts to whether it would work or not? I am going to put the radio in the bottom slot and the cup holder in the top. I really hate trying to drive this thing around without an easy to use cup holder... |
Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
Great idea.

Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
I remember seeing a thread about using that cupholder (from an early 90's Ford Taurus) a while ago, but can't remember how it went. I think it will work, but I remember seeing the comment that the radio cage is recessed too far, so you can only hold can-sized things, no XL coffees.
However, for absolute ease of use and cheapness, go to WalMart and buy a Wedgie cupholder. Stick it between the seat and the console and voila, holds whatever you need and comes out whenever you want. They cost about $5. |
Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
Thats nice to hear those wedgie cupholders work, i didnt know if it would fit or not so thanx for the heads up : )

Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
The wedgie cupholders work great! the best place to buy them is Autobarn. They slip in and out very easily without any damage and can be used with either front seat. When not in use, just toss it on the floor behind the seat.
Autobarn has them in the taupe (beige) and gray, as well as the black. Check out THIS LINK The taupe is a close match for our beige interiors and the gray is a great match too. They run $7.99 plus shipping. . |
Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
That looks like it would work great if you like spilling coffee into your stereo! ;)

I use the simplest solution; no drinks allowed in the car. :D

Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
I have the Wedgie from Wal-Mart. Works pretty well unless if you have people constantly getting in and out of the back seat...then you need to adjust it a bit.
Unfortunately, I can't find a picture of my car with it in. And for as many times as I've had drinks in my car, I've never had a spill. |

the Wedgie didn't work too well for me - take a sharp turn and coffee everywhere. it wasn't deep enough to get a good grap on a cup or contain a spill. it might be ok if you drive like a little old lady on Prozac, however. i tried a bunch and don't even remember which one worked best for me. i think it was this one that i liked, mounted like this: http://i10.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/9f/68/2db7_1_sbl.JPG here is a link to an auction with one that even has a fake burlwood look ...... if you like the look of the plastic wood:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unive...Q5fAccessories |
Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
Key: Cupholder reliably holds a liter bottle.
So far, I've come across those pathetic, throwaway quality jobbies at Advanced Auto and such to fit that bill. They work great, and at 50 cents each (a quarter on a shelf clearance a while ago) if one gets snagged, bent, snapped, squashed, or otherwise mangled or destroyed (or stolen? times are tough!), who cares? |
Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
anyone have the one that goes in the center consel?? i have one.

Re: Single DIN Cup Holder
well, could u post a picture of it installed then? one closed, one w/ Coffee cup in it? (can is so small, its not important if it fits, we all know it will)
