speed sensor on a 5sp
 

I'm trying to figure out which sensor on the trans is the speed sensor and what wires I have to hook them up to on the original SVX wiring harnass. I'm also wondering which sensor is for the reverse indicator, I ohm'd all of them with the trans in R and never got a reading. There is a sensor on the passenger side half way down the trans, a sensor on driver's side about 2/3 of the way down, and a sensor at the very rear of the trans. all of these sensors are two wire.

The Speed Sensor is the sensor on the Auto tranny on top of the front diff, the 5-speed probally doesn't have one, you need to remove the one from your auto tranny and insert it into your manual tranny (in the speedo cable hole) and then your speedo will work correctly.
I STILL haven't hooked up my reverse lights, so I'm no help there.

But you need the Speedo, the reverse lights aren't a neccessity.
One of the sensors should have ohm'd out, maybe try to ohm them again with it out of reverse:confused:

What does the vehicle speed sensor do? My diagnostics list this as one of my 3 bad sensors (the other 2 being the pkb switch and something else). What would be the consequences of a bad speed sensor. I've been told different shift points would result. Is this something I need to get taken care of, or can it be put off? Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to do to my SVX is put off even the most minor repair (it's driving me NUTS that my mud guard is held on with tie wraps), but I gotta be careful with $$.

On the SVX it sends signal to the ECU, and to the Speedometer, if it is bad, your speedo won't work.
