My sun roof sticks when it rains. After it drys out a little it will open, but this time it didn't. It will open with a little nudge but not by itself. Would it help if I lubbed the seal arround the edge of the roof?

Yes, the lube around the seal might help. This was a problem addressed by a TSB on the '92's. Mine does the same -- unless I'm up to road speed -- then, the downforce aids in opening/closing. I used a silicone gel called Sil-glide I purchased from Autozone. This is also a good product to have around for winter. If you smear a little on your door seals during winter, it keeps them from freezing. It may also help to clean your tracks for the sunroof. They can get quite "gunky."

Oh, and I almost forgot, if that doesn't work, you can try adjusting your clutch nut on the sunroof. It's under that stopper, just behind the dome light. It won't move much, so, be careful. A slight adjustment is "a lot."

Ok, I'll give it a go after I do my brakes today. Thanks

I'll have to try it tomorrow, I only got one side done today and now I have to got to work. I did learn that the parking brake is a drum brake. Now I will know to DISENGAGE the darn thing when I take the rotor off.:D

Yep, another one of those little "subaru engineer" surprises -- The "drum in disc" brake. It can be a rude awakening for those unfamiliar. :)

"drum in disc" brake

<< another one of those little "subaru engineer" surprises -- The "drum in disc" brake>>

Actualy, this system is widely used on cars with discs on all corners.... It makes it simpler to have the hand brake in a small drum than directly on the caliper...

Remember the GL10 hand brake on the FRONT WHEELS...?! Now that was weird!!! You had to "screw" the pistons back in when replacing the pads...

Yeah, I remember the first time I put brakes on my old wagon, we had a lever bar on a C-clamp trying to compress the piston when a neighbor says, "I think you have to turn it while pushing it in on those old subarus"

Joe 90, where did you get that little picture at?

Joe 90 04-05-2001 04:36 AM

249SVX, do you meen my "cartooned" teal SVX.... Well I created it.... I've been doing these "car-toons" since I was a kid...

:)
