blown FWD fuse on AWD
My wife was driving her newly purchased 95 AWD SVX and the horn started to blow by itself and after a few minutes the horn died. I started to look for the fuse and I looked in the fuse box under the hood. I didn't find the fuse but I noticed that there was a burnt out (melted) fuse in the FWD slot. I thought that the FWD fuse was only to be inserted in special circumstance like using the donut spare. Should I leave the burnt fuse in the slot or just remove it. I stopped looking for the horn fuse because it started to rain again but any idea why the horn started blowing?

Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
That's what I thought. Don't know why it was there in the first place. Thanks.

Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
Hopefully the FWD fuse wasn't put in there by the previous owner to disguise a problem with the AWD.
How long has your wife had the car? . |
Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
Are you sure that's a melted fuse in that slot? I once thought the same thing and my heart sank until a close examination showed the fuse slot was actually filled with a reddish grease; probably from the factory.

Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
She's had the car since April 2012. It only had about 53,000 miles. I had a forum member do a CARFAX and things seemed ligit. The car is running perfect except for the horn going off (Still need to follow up on that). It's not grease since I can see the red plastic melted between the two prongs. I'll have to get to removing it when the rains stops tomorrow.

Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
When I finally got to working on the "blown fuse", it wasn't a fuse at all. It was that red goop. What is that stuff and why is it in the fuse slot? If installed at the factory, Why?

Re: blown FWD fuse on AWD
Likely to stop corrosion in the rarely used socket.

That makes sense. Thanks.
